10 Trek commuters
Some new bikes in the Trek/Fisher lineup of especial commuter note:
Fisher redid their cyclocross lineup, with two new models at lower price poijts than the Presidio. The Lane is being marketed as a commuter bike and comes with 32c puncture resistant tires, stock. Plenty of room for up to 1.8" tires and/or fenders. Nice touch is the sliding rear dropouts in case anyone wants to go SS/FG on it. $999 price point. The new Fisher Cronus carbon fiber wonderbike has removable fender eyelets combined with brake nuts threaded to accept top fender mounts. WIll take 28c tires, or 25s with fenders. The show bike was also outfitted with insanely awesome cf fenders. $5999 for the Ultimate build with SRAM Red, which I demo-ed (awesome, made me feel like a total hero); entry level 105-equipped bike is around $2500. Trek introduced a new entry level road bike, the 1.1, with an MSRP of $599. And they totally knocked the ball out of the park with the new Belleville models. At $599, these seem to be a complete steal. Dropouts have a derailleur hanger for them what might not want IGH. Trek is also introducing a new line of waterproof luggage under the Bontrager brand, including Ortlieb-esque, panniers and h-bar bag. I was totally prepared to be underwhelmed with commuter options at Trek World, so finding a few different bikes to fit various commuter niches was an extremely nice surprise. |
