Handlebar suggestion for mtb commuter

I was initially thinking I wanted an adjustable stem, but I am thinking about getting the bars first. I looking to replace my straight bars on my old Trek 950 mtb probably with a riser bar setup. There are a great number of brands and models. Any to recommend or avoid? It is my only bike right now and will be used for generally short commutes/trips. Thanks.

Ben

well, what works for me might or might not work for you.

With that said, I like a short rise (maybe 1 1/2 inches) with about a 15 deg back sweep.

Much more comfortable than straight bars, but it also has a "powerful" stance when you need it.

My commuter has straight non-riser bars with just a smidge of back sweep. And bar-ends that basically make the bar look like a set of bullhorns.

Were I to be one tenth as cool as Sheldon Brown, I'd have it set up with bona fide bullhorns by now, with shifters at the end of the bullhorns.

Nitto Albatross. A swept back bar that is the perfect commuter bar!
