The foot thing

As many of you know, I crashed my bike 2.5 weeks ago. My foot has been bothering me since then, I thought due to my work shoes and because I ran twice since the crash.

Anyway, foot still hurts when I walk on it, tons of walking these past two days because I'm a new college student, going up and down stairs etc etc. I have been ignoring the pain as I *can* walk and I don't have time to deal with it.

I was looking at my feet just now and I noticed there is swelling near my toes. son of a *****. Also I've been exposed to the flu (via my boyfriend.) This I do not need.

I'm still definitely sure there is no fracture, the pain has never been *that* bad but clearly, something is afoot (heh.)
goddamned embedded train tracks.

Any redness with that swelling? Are you spending as much time as possible with your foot propped up?
Can't remember if you said you had sought a healthcare professional's assessment?
wouldn't be a bad idea.
You've likely stopped running.
Do what you think best about the BF.

naw no redness, just the swelling. I am trying to put it up and ice it right now. I remember it hurts the worst on stairs, some of my classes are on the third floor, lol. I really have no time to go to a Dr this week and I've been exposed to a flu, probably h1n1 via my bf so I'm waiting for that to take me out.

Uhm. Go to the doctor. Posts on BikeForums have no medicinal value.

Go to a Butcher shop.
They may be able to remove it with one quick stroke.

Naw, I checked the goofy BC health guide, the pain is mild to moderate, never more, which indicates a "mild injury" that I'm pissing off by running/walking on it. I highly doubt a dr can do anything for this, probably just write me an RX for naproxen which I already have from the crash before this one, did my shoulder. I do not have time to go to a dr, I'm stressing bad over homework, already did some, have more to do. FUUUUUUU- first week of college is hell.

I just needed to ***** somewhere, damned bike crashes.

Yeah, amputation would be a quick fix lol.

eta: I called the stupid nurse hotline, I basically got torn a new one for not going to the dr sooner, ice apparently doesn't work on "old" injuries, however, I think the nurse did confirm this is probably a minor injury I just never allowed to heal (how could I? I gotta walk!)

Uh-huh. That's what my brother said when he fractured his hand in a couple places snowboarding. Several months later (surprise!) it still hurt and required surgery to set and pin the bones. Everyone on the internet is a doctor, lawyer, and engineer.

Could be a hairline fracture or something. If it hurts when you walk, get some crutches. It'll at least give it a chance to heal and you'll still be able to get around.

See I told you! Now they're gonna tie you up and put that foot in a cast, how you gonna act then? Tell the doc to attach a clip-on thing to the bottom of the cast so you can still clip in to bike cleats and snow skis. Doesn't look like the cast is gonna slow you down anyway.

Your nurse made an incorrect comment. While the ice won't work on the injury itself, it will aid in keeping swelling down.

Even if it's a three week old injury? Ice didn't seem to do jack, I iced it earlier.

For health or sickness care advice, there's no place like the internet now. It's taken the place of the bar/locker room for this type of advice, hasn't it?

I'm in the amputation camp. It's the only way to make sure.

Then again, I recently stretched my peroneal tendon running down a hill and hitting a tree root the wrong way as my ankle kinda folded up, but I got through it without cutting off my foot. But your results may vary.

You've got an awful lot to learn about injury treatment if you want to go the self-care route. Go see a doctor. Creating more bikeforums threads won't help you.

I don't mean to dogpile, but really, why haven't you seen a doctor yet? Your foot has been hurting for nearly 3 weeks, and between this thread and the other one, at least 10 people have recommended seeing a doctor, which for some reason you don't want to do even though you have insurance. I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. Nobody here can fix your foot for you, they can only offer advice which you don't seem to want to hear. Would wearing a boot and using crutches for a few weeks really be so bad? Are you willing to risk a more serious and long term injury for whatever short term gain you think you're getting by not seeking professional help? If so, then I really don't know what to say.

At least you got to ride most of the summer.
If your foot smells more than it usually does
you have gangrene and have to see Dr. Sawbones.
Otherwise go see Dr. winteroff.
