Definitely recommend the magicshine 900. There are better lights out there, but at that price, at the moment, not even close for the money.

I like the Cygolite brand of lights because their also lower cost then others, and my Cygo Metro has lasted 7 years and that was their cheapest light. BUT, when it dies I would seriously consider the MagicShine myself for my commuter, because Cygo doesn't have anything that compares in brightness and price. It would be interesting to find out in a year or two how reliable those MagicShine lights will be. My touring bike has a dynamo hub so that one uses a different light.

I saved my pennies and invested in a dynamo lighting system. I think it's well worth the money, especially now that I don't have to worry about batteries. The bike makes its own light, so I ride it more at night with less hassle regarding batteries.

My Superbe is dyno-hub powered...but I still use a PBSF in addition to the Toplight tailight and my P7 in addition to the Lumotec headlight when the light levels in the morning/evening go from dawn/dusk to just plain dark. The dynamo-powered lights throw an acceptable amount of light...but more/additional is never a bad thing. ;)

I agree. I think the MagicShine outperforms every light in the $200-350 price range for just $85. If you are shopping for lights above that price point then the MagicShine may not be the best option. I've been using mine for 3 months now...recharging every night or every other night. It works great. The ONLY complaint I have (and it's minor) is the rubber-band style mount it comes with sometimes slips a little bit around the bar if you ride over rough roads...part of my commute is on a dirt service road, and it is pretty bumpy....it doesn't drop straight down or anything, it just tips down a millimeter or two...which at the end of the beam translates into a few feet less up the road. I just grab it and tip it up every 1/2 mile. You probably would not have this problem if your commute was all on paved roads. I think I can correct this by wrapping a band of bar tape under the rubber mount...it's not that it's not tight enough, it just needs more friction to keep it in place.
