What does MUP stand for?

Ok we have the ARBT = American River Bike Trail so what does MUP stand for?

umd 10-02-09 09:45 PM

multi use path

Doohickie 10-02-09 10:22 PM

^ What he said. MUPs can have bikes, pedestrians, joggers, dog walkers, ladies with baby carriages, and other things I've forgotten. Conditions vary widely on MUPs for cyclists. Sometimes they are heaven on earth; sometimes the opposite.

jefferee 10-02-09 10:24 PM

There are definitely MUPs that could be described as Mobs of Unaware Pedestrians.

sinclac 10-02-09 10:29 PM

Thanks, for the info i was just trying to figure it out and now i know.

mikewille 10-02-09 10:42 PM

many unattentive people

I hate acronyms. It's taken me a lifetime to understand what etc. means.

That one is not an acronym but a abbreviation or contraction of the single word "etcetra" IIRC my English classes correctly.

It is two words "et cetera", meaning "and the rest"

HA HA!! I'm in the Air Force and I've never heard of so many acronyms before I joined! We can make an entire sentence or conversation out of almost all acronyms sometimes. Talk about having fun around people that don't use them or around them much! :roflmao2:

Kevin666 10-03-09 05:49 AM

Mobs of Unaware Pedestrians tend to pronounce it "eck ceteruh."

The one I use is mainly heaven on earth, but it can degrade pretty quickly. I'd add wildlife and trash to your list, as well as the guys I saw playing cricket on it one day. Their version of cricket used a chair. I'm not that familiar with cricket, but don't remember a chair being part of the gear needed to play.

Google can save you a lot of embarrassment.

Acronyms are bad enough, but I avoid metphores like the plague.

That explains why you use similes instead. ;)

The forum search feature, too. Lots of "what's an MUP" threads!

So you only use simile?

Do you also avoid metaphors?

i believe the literary term 'contraction' mostly applies to two words that are contracted by way of an apostrophe. +1 for abbreviation though.

I guess the dirty little secret about cyclists--that we're a bunch of anal-retentive language nazis--is out in the open now.

Perhaps it's for the best, though, as the next motorist who considers yelling something out the window will think twice if he knows it could lead to a long, painful, drawn-out lecture on the proper use of grammar...and possibly an essay assignment.

And when writing to spell it "ect."

Are the users of MUPs Muppets?

dipy911 10-05-09 08:27 AM

Mindless urchins pedaling (God I hate kids that can't do a straight line. A parent should be on both sides to warn the rest of us!) I'm hoping as it gets cooler, they will stop riding.
