Getting a 2nd set of wheels for MTB slicks will this work?
 

Well ive been planning to get a 2nd wheelset for my 26er mtn bike. my first thought getting a set of 29er wheels and putting slicks on that but have been informed that it may not fit on my 26er frame. so im looking to get a set of wheels

sun ds-2 w/ deore hubs found them for $65.
Sram hg 950 11-26 casette for $21
and a pair or alligator disc rotors for $30
I have rithey tom slick pro 1.0 but am goin to sell them to get the 1.4 i choose these cause there the lightest 1.4 size slick i can find. i juss think 1.0 is to skinny for daily commuting and the occasional road rides with friends 1.0 seems kinda scary to ride. If you guys have any other suggestions on tires that would be great.

well my question is is this set up compatible will all my current parts? would i have to change the rear derailer?

This is my current bike the only different is the chainring is a shimano deore 26-36-48t

It'll fit. To make things simpler, get the same range of cassette that you have already.

I'm able to fit 700c wheels with certain 28 mm tires on my full suspension mountain bike.

The michelin XCR road slicks in 1.6 are really great too

yeah i am looking to fit at least 700x35 if 700x35 fit i would totally do that.

It's not a slick tire, but this is a Hutchison 700x34C.

There is a bit less room in the rear triangle, but unless I am riding in significant mud or wet snow, there are no issues.

Note that your BB will be raised a bit by the larger-diameter wheels.

ohh wow you have a large cleareance on yours im not sure my bike has the same clearance as you. i will take a pic of my 2.10 tires and the clearance to compare. maybe you can give me an estimate on of a 700x35 slick would fit.

I did the whole "second set of wheels" deal for a while, but ended up going back to just swapping the tires. Every time I would change to the other wheels, I would need to re-adjust the disc brakes and mess with the RD a bit to make it perfect. It was too much of a pain for me.

I am not a disk break guy, but I recall seing post about there being some issues with swapping wheels, and the rotor thickness/wear is different.........

i understand the disc brake adjustment everytime i remove my wheel and put it back on i have to adjust my pads everytime i dont mind that but as for RD that may be a problem.

I need to adjust only the wheel size on the speedometer.

This might be a stroke of luck, but you could shim the rotors if need be.

Edit: If it makes any difference, the hubs are Hugi Onyx 6-bolts with a 11-32 XT cassette, and XT centrelocks with a ultegra 11-25 cassette
