Fibre Flare rear light
 

Anyone remember the thread about this awhile ago? Well they have finally come out and I've bought one.

Used it for the first time last night, it's bright and adaptable but it's pretty flimsy, I already ripped the rubber battery cover. :(

I bought it for $51 US I'm in New Zealand. I'm thinking great idea, but because they wanted to save on weight they've lost durability. I just don't think this will last in heavy rains and it's pretty expensive. I just don't think it was designed for us day in day out commuters, but I'll keep you informed.

Thanks, I'm actually very interested in this light, but sounds like the manufacturer has some bugs to work out before I'd spend $40 or $50 on one.

Wonder if one could be adapted to dynamo power. ;)

I met a couple early one morning at a local bagel shop who had colored lights hanging and strapped to their MTB's that were similar to the Fibre Flair. They said they got them at our local Target store and were pretty cheap, $-wise. They (the lights) looked sort of like miniature Star Wars light sabers. I haven't had a chance to get to Target yet to get a closer look.

I'm sure the Fibre Flair is more hi-tech; these were more "meh-tech" but could do the same job.

I've seen those at REI. They looked ok,and have a regular flashlight in one end,but use the watch-style button cells. These are much brighter,and the lithium coin cells should last way longer:

Just a follow up on the Fibre Flare, it sucks, the light did indeed die after a couple of months. I also lost the receipt and never got a chance to take it back. It is incapable of keeping rain out, it is very flimsy, the battery terminals rusted quickly and the on/off buttons are tiny and ping off never to be found again.

It's a toy and never should never be used for commuting. I emailed the company and never received a reply, the email was polite with what I thought was helpful suggestions in beefing the light up, no reply. A real shame.
