I'd suggest (in addition to calling the bus company) getting a mirror and riding further out from the curb. If someone looks like they aren't moving over in time to pass I'd first move further left so they know they can't get away with trying to buzz by in the same lane. If you leave yourself move room, then if you are about to get buzzed, you have escape space on the right.

I've gotten more clearance from cement mixers than school busses

A little late to this thread...
About a year ago, I was run off the road by a school bus while pulling my kid in a trailer. The bus approached me from behind, horn blaring, through a residential area going at least 45mph and swerved toward me. The bus forced me off the road, then swerved to the left side of the road and blasted through a 4-way stop, horn still blaring, without even hesitating. I got the number off the bus as it disappeared down the road. I called 911 because this driver was endangering kids lives. They didn't seem concerned. Later, I called the police who were rude and refused to file a report. I called the school district, and they refused to help and were quite rude. Finally, I called the bus company and they basically told me to **** off. Fortunaly this was an isolated incident, but the response of the authorities is inexcusable. My kid started school this year. I moved to a new place recently and intentionally avoided that school district. |

I'd have gone to the local paper - either get a reporter interested or write a letter to the editor. If you could get that published, at least you'd raise some hell among parents.
