The Very Best Of Joey Brooks 2009 (VIDEO)

I finished the 2009 highlight reel earlier than expected. There are some previously unreleased scenes, but mostly just my video year in review. Every bit of this video is part of my commute, however some involve pre-work rides with buds. We are all going directly to work after the extra miles, or home from work by alternate routes.

NOTE: This one is produced entirely in actual speed.

All 14:33 minutes are exactly as the camera sees things. No scenes have been sped up in editing. Looks really slow at times, but much smoother than the enhanced versions. So you get a look "behind the curtain" so to speak and might get the feeling that anybody can do it. I believe anybody can do this stuff if 18-25 MPH for a few blocks is not out of the question.

Ride Safe...HAVE FUN!

The Very Best of Joey Brooks - 2009

True, I had no idea how fast I ride until I got a computer a couple weeks ago. It's nice to know I average in that 18-25 range even though most of my riding is my commute. The average that gets recorded could be higher if I filtered more. I've done it a million times but it seems when I ride alone I have difficulty getting myself to do it, so I end up sitting in traffic like a shmuk. I think the drivers know it too, it's not uncommon for them to move a little to the side when I'm standing behind them.

If I'm not feelin' it, I take a different route or chill behind some slower vehicles. Sometimes my nerves are frazzled from work, or I am preoccupied with distracting thoughts. Those days, I'm a "shmuk" too.

entertaining, looks like what i'd probably end up doing if I rode in congested slow traffic. I'd always be wearing a helmet though as i dented the A-pillar of a car with my helmeted head when I was a kid. Other than that, as long as you can see the openings are clear, take them. Motorcycles around here ride pretty much like that without the light running.

you need a sign on your back that says "smile, you're on camera"

That is a great idea!

This guy could use that shirt. He has words with a motorist and at some point says "You're on camera by the way".

That's a great light- I've had mine for about 4 years and wouldn't leave home w/o it

IMHO...

Guys like Joey are the part of the reason cyclist have enjoy such a stellar reputation amongst cagers. I certainly hope he doesn't drive a car. He obviously has no clue regarding traffic rules and laws.

I bet if he got smacked by a door or bumper he'd be crying the blues about those irresponsible cagers.

Best regards,

Mike

I am not fond of contraflow, but there are one or two blocks where I partake, with great care and fear. I grant right of way to rats crossing the road.

I deal with the stereotype you are helping to create by riding that way every day.

I guess the best thing I can do is remind the drivers I encounter every day is that not everybody out there rides like you, and they shouldn't use the way guys like you ride as an excuse to drive carelessly/illegally around me when I'm on my bike.
