payback time - I was a jerk this morning

I had to drive to work this morning. Halfway to work I figured out that I had forgotten to take my lunch (driving always messes up my routine), so I turned around and went home to retrieve it.

On the way back out, I had to wait at the stop sign of my street for traffic to clear before I could turn. Lo and behold the car I was waiting for turned out to be one that constantly plays silly games during my ride home - honking, revving the engine, passing in intersections, passing on hills, passing too close, etc. So I decided to give him a bit of his own medicine...I tailgated him the entire route, with my brights on, honking my horn and revving my engine, until he finally slowed at the railroad crossing that's only about a half-mile away from my work...where I passed him, laying on the horn.

Yeah, it was stoopid, I was a jerk and he has no idea what it was all about or who I was...but it felt good. :o

lol

ItsJustMe 10-28-09 06:43 AM

win. I know it's childish, but I still smiled.

Since he had no idea what all the honking was about, this probably didn't achieve much. There's not even much of a feeling of revenge is the revenged party has no idea what's happening.

Couldn't you just get his plate number and report his antics to the police?

Or... just tailgate him on your bicycle. :)

guess he missed this: "Yeah, it was stoopid, I was a jerk and he has no idea what it was all about or who I was...but it felt good."

Sometimes it's nice just to vent...with nothing of substance accomplished but an emotional release. ;)

Killjoy #2 here: this kind of behaviour doesn't make the world a nicer place. Hell, all you did is reinforce his notion that ******* behaviour is common and acceptable.

Mr. Underbridge 10-28-09 08:05 AM

Chip, that was stupid. You were a jerk. I bet he had no idea what it was all about or who you even were.

I hope it felt good.

calebmelvin 10-28-09 08:05 AM

Now that you have done a great job of pissing him off he will go tailgate and harass the next cyclist he comes along. It sounds like it his preferred method of taking out his road rage to begin with.

(Not that I am saying I wouldn't have done it too :twitchy:)

Square & Compas 10-28-09 08:09 AM

Funny? Yes, Childish? Very. But next time try and do this on your bike. Of course you'll need one of these: http://www.hostelshoppe.com/cgi-bin/...ory=1015625493

So people being a ******* to you reinforces your notion that ******* behavior is acceptable?
If not, why do you think it would for others?

Sooo, getting f'd with by other drivers drives drivers to f with cyclists?

(hmm, could I have used the word driver any more in that sentence?) ;)

correct on all counts - thanks for clarifying that for me. :D

I agree with chipcom, but I'll say more politely: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You have a right to be really PO'd at that driver. But acting on your feelings only makes things worse. Take a deep breath, acknowledge your anger, then just let it go. You'll live longer and be happier.

But I'm the first to admit, this is easier said than done...

Just last night I shouted "A$$HOLE!" at top of my lungs to each of the two cars that passed me on a blind curve with a double yellow line. If they suddenly found a car in the opposite lane they were using to pass me (because I was properly "claiming the lane" with my bike position) do you think they would just go ahead take a head-on collision, or would they just swerve back into the right lane (and into me) to avoid it? Deep breath, exhale, let it go.

That's funny.

ModoVincere 10-28-09 08:38 AM

you ass.

danarnold 10-28-09 08:40 AM

You are forgiven my son. Say three 'Hail Cyclos' and don't do it again until you see him.

damn....guess I'll just have to use GHB or chloroform.:p

mtnwalker 10-28-09 08:55 AM

All you did is reinforce his dislike of cagers. He will probably take his frustration out on the next cager he encounters and create an accident that may hurt their cars(we can only hope). Happy now?
