So today I am flying to Portland to visit my girl friend, I have never flown or been to Portland. My girlfriend works until 8 and i get there at about 1or2, I am bringing a bike and plan to go to OBCA's 2009 Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show from the airport.

Basicly my question is how should I get there. The easiest way,

I thought I read something about PDX not liking cyclist riding anywhere around there, also I doubt they would like me to assemble a bike there.

Also are there places to get good maps/bike path maps of Portland. Some place I could go to first,

Any and all help before I get there around 2 would be nice, I should have asked earlier.

If riding from the airport, I would take 82nd to Sandy, follow Sandy to Burnside, cross the river on the Burnside bridge, turn right on 5th ave to Glisan, left on Glisan up to 21st, right on 21st to Thurman, left on Thurman to 25th, right on 25th to Vaughn, then left on Vaughn to your show.

Note, the city is divided into 5 areas: N, NE, SE, SW, and NW. The Willamette river divides east from west, and Burnside divides north from south. The NW quadrant is easy to navigate because east to west is numbered streets (starting from the river and going up as you go further west) and the south to north streets are alphabetical: ankeny, burnside, couch, davis, everett, flanders, glisan, etc...

Note, 82nd, Sandy, and Burnside are not great for cycling. From the airport you can also take the max which allows bicycles. I'd recommend doing that to go downtown and riding your bike to the bike show from there.

+1 for the max. My wife used to bike to the airport for her job and she couldn't find a single reasonable route that didn't feel excessively dangerous.

Yes and get up to Council Crest it is a beautiful day today and you'll get a fab view!
