Yet you are whining about the whiners whining about the whiners.
Pot meet kettle. |
We are now caught in a positive feedback loop of whining.
OW, my ears! |

So I'm NOT going to debate this any more. But every time you folks try to censor someone I'm going to point it out ONCE. Pretty soon, people will get wise to ya'll. |

I hate how early I have to wake up in the morning to commute to work. Food prep for the next day's lunch is also a PITA.

The first 3 biking-related things I hate that came to mind all start with an "h". Must be for hate. Here're horrible hated hitches, hurdles, hindrances, hardships & headaches:

"I like my helmet,
Good place to mount my mirror and my red blinkie." A helmet haiku? Too funny! Nothing I've yet encountered on a bike has been annoying/frightening/infuriating enough to outweigh, or really even to dim, the thrill of riding. The only thing I really hate is that my time on the bike gets limited by factors beyond my control, including over-use injuries, and especially that we squander our daylight hours at work, leaving few sunlit hours for play. I guess that while the sun rises and sets as I sit in my windowless office this winter, leaving me with only darkness when I'm free, at least my over-use injuries may finally heal. Seriously, though, how I would love to see a 'double daylight saving' or similar scheme in effect. Just think of all the light lingering late into the evening for more of the year. Even non-cyclists could appreciate that. |

equipment is equipment, I don't hate it. Mostly I dislike bits of leaves and bugs that can get in the eyes. re. helmets, they're good for holding headlights and tailights. I didn't wear one for years of touring until I got into racing. Then I wore one because I had children. Then I stopped for about ten years because I was playing the odds. Then the odds caught up with me and I don't want to pay that price again so I wear a helmet. |

I also know what you mean with the helmets, necessary I guess, but annoying, really, really annoying. another thing I found annoying recently (with my bike in particular) is the lack of a decent chain guard. Just like you said, it used to be you jump on your bike and you get where you need to go and you're done with it. Now you have to deal with helmet, and pants. I am also with scoatw about bike accessoires not lasting very long. Bought a fancy pannier (rain proof and all) and now the side pocket came off. :( |
The bad:
1. Actively bike-hostile drivers (of which there fortunately are few) 2. Other persons on bike shaped objects that yell at me for being in their way when they are riding through a red light, on the wrong side of the road etc. 3. Bike thieves 4. Badly placed road construction materials The best: 1. Free rock-star parking 2. Not getting stuck in traffic 3. Mild breezes and the sound of the wheel on pavement 4. Feeling alive and invigorated 5. Bike commuting = license to eat as much high calorie food as you want (well to a degree, could use a longer commute ;) ) |
