The Fender Extender
4 Attachment(s)
I've had an issue with spray from my front tire soaking the front of my canvas handlebar bag, to the point that it actually saturates the cloth and soaks through inside the front pocket. In comparing my fenders (SKS P-45) with the Honjo, VO and old French constructeur fenders, they were sorely lacking in length ahead of the fork blades.
So, I found a hacked up bit of an old SKS fender I had laying around, Krazy Glued it to the leading edge of my current fender, and with the help of my trusty heat gun I bent it to a reasonable line. It's a little messy on the bending, but it should serve the purpose of directing front wheel spray in a downward trajectory instead of having it flying up and drenching the contents of my handlebar bag. |
I think it adds to the "Road Warrior" look of your bike. Good on you!

I've been thinking about how to solve this very problem, especially since I now have a dynamo headlight (I went with the Schmidt Edelux) mounted to the fork crown.
It's less of an issue with my winter fenders. I run the 45mm PlanetBike Cascadias in winter, and PB sells replacement mudflaps. I'm going to put one on the front of the front fender too. But in the three-seasons, I run 35mm SKS. I'll have to ask my LBS to save any broken SKS they come across. Thanks for the idea. |

Below is my coverage, past 180 deg. At first I used urethane glue, but now turned to epoxy after discovering what quality may be had for the latter outside of the typical supermarket/hardware store offering.

I bought two sets of SKS-P45s at a swap meet, to utilize a second rear for the front.
Now what to do with two idle fronts? |
I've done the same thing before, except I used a small bolt instead of glue. Much like how a mudflap would bolt on, except in the opposite direction.
