I was a little worried about all the sharp and pokey bits on the Take-A-Look mirror too. But it's so versatile and adjustable I used it anyway.
The sharp edged mirror could be dulled a bit with tape or carefully brushed on liquid rubber, the stuff sold as a dip for adding grip to tools.

I haven't used mirrors for a while and recently installed a 3rd Eye Pro, externally mounted. It has been perfectly solid and adjustable for my everyday so far and in all conditions. We shall see how it how it holds up for the long term.

Been using my HubBub Cycles helmet mirror for 2 years now. I can't imagine riding without it now. The mirror is large and very clear, with a great field of view of what's happening behind me. It's also hand-made right here in the USA.

I have two Take-A-Look mirrors. One is compact and it is my daily mirror. I have it clipped to my glasses everyday. The other is standard, (bigger) and I use it when it is raining. I remove my glasses when it is raining, so I switch to the larger mirror and clip it to the visor of my helmet.

I like this one. It's stable at higher speeds and has a good field of view. I used to use the Take-A-Look mirror, but I like this one alot better.

+1 on the HubBub mirror. Previously, I had another brand (forgot the name) and the plastic "ball and socket" would become loose and the mirror would just flop around. Some people dribbled a drop or two of sticky soft drink into the socket to tighten it up. I pulled a small zip tie around the tiny ball. I'm sure there are other "fixes" to this problem.
The final and best fix was to remove that mirror and replace it with the HubBub. Mine has thousands of miles of use, both commuting and touring and just riding around. You adjust it once and it stays in adjustment, unless you knock the crap out of it.
Can't imagine riding without a mirror. Heck, my neck doesn't bend enough for me to see what's back there...

The EVT Safe Zone mirror is in a class of it's own. By leaps and bounds it is bigger, tougher, and more stable than anything in existence. American made, best customer support possible, 5 year no-fault warranty. It was obviously invented by someone who only cares about how well it functions. It's got an enormous flat reflector so you can see finer details. You can actually tell if someone's texting at the wheel. It's pretty much indestructible too. You can even pick up the helmet by the mirror! The cost reflects how much better it is than anything else, but you don't have to replace it every year so in the long run it's actually cheaper. You gotta try one.
