Rain protection
I have been commuting 5 days a week rain or shine this year with zero rain protection aside from fenders. I also do most of my errand running on my bike. Now that the rain is also very cold I think it's about time I got some sort of a rain cover.
Obviously the cheaper the better. What style works, what does not? Or is it as simple as buying a 3 dollar rain poncho? |
I just bought a pair of "rainlegs" they seem pretty good and I can't wait to try them out. Before I used to wear waterproof trousers but got way too hot in them and so got wet from sweat! On the top I use a rain jacket, 1/2 unzipped (unless it is really raining hard).

Steel toes for your feet...leather that is!

A Trash bag has worked on the short commutes!

It depends on the length of your ride. I have a Field & Stream rain jacket and pants that cost $40. They work for me on my 3 mile commute. Moisture does build up, but it is do-able for my short trips. It sweat and/or moisture is a huge concern, you may have to spend a little more for something cycling specific.

My commute is just under 1 mile each way. When I run errands it's normally less than 5 miles round trip. That is why I have put this off for so long. |
