Riding on Icy Streets
Check out "Donnie Cam" in Amsterdam at this link:

At this posting it was about 12:30 AM Friday with light snow and the streets and walkways look slippery.

Check out Snowpenhagen.
Also shows how it goes in night with the light snow.

Be particularly careful near traffic lights and stop signs, as the braking and accelerating cars polish the snow to create a very slick surface.

What surprises me about this video is how many of the cyclists didn't have very bright lights and that some didn't have any. Given their focus on cycling safety, I would have thought that front and rear lights would be compulsory for night riding. Also, it would appear that rear blinkies aren't as popular there.

I noticed that to nwmtnbkr. The lack of front and rear lights as well as reflective gear I took notice of. Then I thought it is probably due to the number of cyclist on the road compared to the states. I'd probably look like an alien spaceship with some of the equipment in my arsenal.

Watching the Donnie Cam last night, I saw two cyclists fall in the intersection in separate incidents. Lots of other riders dismounted and pushed out of sight to the viewer's left. Almost all bikes seem to have lights though. Local time in Amsterdam was about 12:30 AM.

In the right lane
Went to put my foot down and realized I couldn't stand up.
Oh-oh... better keep pedaling.
