Nice bike! How was the traction on the road?
[edit: I should say, bikes, as there are two of them in the photos.] |

Thanks : )
jeffpoulin - My husband's Pashley Roadster Sovereign is fitted with its native Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires, 28" x 1 1/2" . He says that he does not feel the need for studded tires. His bike has drum brakes, which, unlike rim brakes, are not effected by snow and ice buildup. My bike in the pictures is a vintage Raleigh DL-1 Lady's Tourist, fitted with Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tires, 28" x 1 1/2". They are wider than the Marathon Plus, but less grippy. Still, I did not have a problem with them in the snow; my biggest problem was visibility - since the snow was still falling at the time. Also, the rod brakes on this bike have weak stopping power in adverse weather conditions, so I factored in for that in my riding speed and style. |
PS: You can see in the picture below how the snow immediately builds up around rim brakes, and rod brakes give it even more crevices to do so:
