Casual waterproof shoes
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on casual-looking waterproof MTB shoes. I currently have a pair of Sidi Diablo boots, which are great for when I can change my shoes at my destination. However, due to a change in my employment situation, I now need to make regular 9-10 mile trips (each way) where changing my shoes is not possible. As I am in the Pacific Northwest, it is often raining during my commute this time of year. I have been wearing normal SPD commuting shoes, but having wet or moist shoes all day isn't that fun. The only shoes that I have been able to find that meet my criteria are the Pearl Izumi X-Alp Mid GTX, but unfortunately they were a 2008 model and I have not been able to find them in my size (43). Any suggestions?

I tried waterproof shoes. Water will still flow through the top opening even during weak rain. The only solution so far that worked for me: Sealskinz waterproof socks as recommended by others on this forum. Then I just wear light shoes that will dry quickly.

You could wear a pair of shoe covers like these> http://tinyurl.com/ygrcha7
I wear shoes like these http://tinyurl.com/y9qwylx with platform pedals and they are fine. However, the PNW gets a lot more rain than we do in East Jabip... |
Thanks for the feedback. The SealSkinz are not really what I am looking for. My Sidis are great at keeping my feet dry, and I see no reason why a pair of shoes like the discontinued X-Alps would do any worse. Shoe covers might work if I sealed up the area around the plate for the cleats. However, if available, I would prefer waterproof shoes as I am likely to walk through puddles and stuff as I go about my day.

Been using these summer and winter in Wisconsin.
http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Prod...lator-GORE-TEX It snows here at this time of year. Warm for a s1x mile commute at zero degrees F. If I had to fight rain I would use my Cross country ski gators. Will in the Spring. Medium rain, not needed. I use fenders. bill |
