Ted Nugent's Catch Scratch Fever is worth 4 mph.
I picked up an mp3 player a while back. It's about the size of a 50-cent piece, clips onto the inside of my cycling jersey and has ear buds. It helps to break up the boredom, and it seems to boost my cadence. I pop out one of the earbuds, or shut the thing off, when necessary. I wouldn't think of using it in moderate to heavy traffic. I have a nice commuting route, however, that helps me avoid that to a very large extent. I also ride with mirrors, which I frequently check. |

Of course I do. I spend about 3 hrs/day on my bike. I don't think I could do that if I didn't have something to listen to. I can hear cars behind me well enough and on the days I don't listen to anything, I don't feel like I'm more aware, just more bored.

I never listen to music while riding my bike - get the feeling that I wont hear the big truck coming...

Add an in-line remote and you're all set. Sound quality is decent, and there's the added benefit of walkers in MUPs giving you weird looks instead of you having to warn them that you're coming. |
