SRAM i-Light Dynmo Hub, Anyone Using One?

Anyone have an SRAM i-Light dynamo hub?

I'm thinking about adding some generator lights to my bicycle and I need a dynamo hub.

Appears I can get the SRAM i-Light in 36h cheaper than I can get a Shimano dynamo hub in 36h.

Anyone have experience with an i-Light? Anyone compare it to a Shimano one?

I have one, I put one on my girlfriend's bike too. One year each through all weather and seasons and no issues yet. The dust cap doesn't fit as nicely as I'd like but that's a minor gripe.

I have both a Shimano Nexus 3R71 disc/dyno hub and the SRAM i-Light 730 disc/dyno. The Shimano is smoother without load, I still need to test the i-Light out on the bench to see how it compares to the Shimano power wise. The Alfine and new Nexus 3R72 cost more than the Sram -Light, the Nexus 3R71 is about the same cost. I haven't been able to find the 36H disc version of the i-Light and the Nexus 3R71 in the US.

There's some discussion here: "Anyone using an SRAM i-light dynamo?" <http://tiny.cc/20jx0 >.

And from Wikipedia: "SRAM manufacture the i-Light hub dynamo. The D7 series is available for both rim and disc brakes while the D3 series features several of rim brake varieties. In a 2006 review by the German Stiftung Warentest, the efficiency at 15 km/h of a D1 series i-Light hub dynamo was 66%, 10% better than a SON-28.[2]"

for some reason i read something aout the sram dynos having a bad rep. take this with a grain of salt! i cant confirm this!

I sure enjoy having a dynohub, many people say "your lights are on, youll run out of batterys!" specially because the B&H Lights hold charge and remain lit for 1 minute (rear) and 2 minutes (front/a little led).

Try to buy the best you can, its worth it! I drool all over modern dynamo hubs, cause my 1975 Dynohub has a lot more resistance than the newer hubs....still a lot of fun.
