Unfortunate for who! Sounds like the judge is pitying the criminal. For the sake of public safety, it was very fortunate that it was someone who could easily take the proper action.

he should have received at least a year in jail and a license ban for 10 years, minium. and he should have also been treated to a proper beating from the cop.

Here in the US he probably would have been cited for "improper use of lane" and gotten off with a $200 fine.

yeah i was just reading up on a few accidents here in idaho a woman who killed a local well known cyclist did not recieve any charges even after admiting she was not paying attenion to the road while "messing with my gps" so i guess if you wanna murder someone do it in a car when their riding a bike

I'm assuming the kid didn't have a previous record. A short time in jail could have been a well deserved wakeup call, but I honestly believe that a good way to create a life long criminal is substantial jail time.

i've been reading the comments on that article, and it's just insane to me. living in Madison, which is very liberal and bike-friendly, i can't even fathom living somewhere that would make me feel uncomfortable for simply cycling. the worst i've experienced are honks, and i've only (audibly) been insulted a couple times (and admittedly, i'm not a conservative rider).

Unbelievable. I've had people honk at me and yell at me, but so far nothing thrown at me. I don't even care about honking and yelling - by doing so they are just making a$$es of themselves for everyone to see. What I can't stand is being buzzed. I just HATE that!

If that happened where I live he would be dead. Our police routinely shoot and kill people who try to run them over.

Interesting how they were able to arrest the kid just on word of the cyclist. I guess the badge means that that particular cyclist's testimony is more reliable than the average citizen. Normally the cops would just say, "we can't do anything since we didn't witness the incident". I would have loved to have seen the look on his face if the cop walked into the nearest station and he got the type of treatment the rest of us get.

Yeah, I get very little abuse, so it makes the few yells and honks even funnier, since I think of them this way: You're the first person to yell at me of the last 2000 people to pass me. Congratulations, you're in the top 99.95% for *******s in the population. Only one person in 2000 is even as much of an ******* as you are.

I consider both honks and yells to be the driver yelling "HEY! I'm A HUGE *******!" Makes me smile. And that pisses them off too.

Yep crappy sentance, to be honest he should just be removed from the gene pool. I don't think he will make any significant contribution to society EVER, so why not just do away with him now?
