Done with Commuting...

It looks like I won't be able to commute by bicycle any more save for the days and evenings I ride down to the co-op to volunteer and that is only a bi-weekly affair.

I will be riding the girls back and forth to school when the weather improves so that will be nice and that's a 14 km round trip... I will need to do that twice a day and am hoping we have a nice spring season of riding.

But for now my commuting days are pretty much over as rather than the commute being too far to do by bike (don't know if there is such a thing) it is because I reduced my commute from 2km to 30 steps from my back door.

I don't expect to see any other commuters on my new route and some days may need to wear a sweater and put on the yaktrax if things are icy... on the bright side there will be no sidewalk ninjas.

:)

And when I open that green door I get to deal with this... :)

I live on a bike route so figure the shop re-location was a good idea.

No more commuting? My condolences. :(

Sixty Fiver 02-18-10 01:35 PM

I know... I am going to have to hang out in the utility cycling forum more now. :)

The car belongs to my tenant and I do not drive.

You could always add a before "work" and after "work" trip to a coffee shop, or to the end of your block. That way you can say you commute :D

Yehuda Moon lives in the shop and still rides his bike before work :D

Did that already... :)

I do have to ride every day for therapy so plan to get in an am pm ride until the girls and I resume our daily commute and there is always shopping and errands to be done.

My old ride to the shop was only 1.8 km so I am not missing much in that respect anyways.

A unicycle would be just about perfect for the commute.

I hope you have a heater in your garage. It's still a little cold for me to get much done in mine for any extended period of time.

mickey85 02-18-10 05:04 PM

is that a fork welded to a C clamp?

Sixty Fiver 02-18-10 05:04 PM

No heat yet but with the temperatures hovering around freezing I have been quite comfortable... will be doing some renovations over the summer to insulate and heat the shop.

I keep my house rather cool and am used to being out in cooler temperatures... a lot of folks would not be able to hack it.

The fork is mounted into a steel base and the c clamp keeps it from shifting around although it is fairly stable on it's own.

It makes my stand completely portable which is good when I do off site repairs and wheel work.

Utility cycling, commuting, recreational, it's all the same! As long as you're enjoying yourself, that's all that matters.

Heat is for wimps. Especially with the mild temperatures in Western Canada. If you get a heater, next thing you'll want an Escalade.

I don't see a unicycle....

I am not too far away from you and should have the fridge and coffee things set up pretty shortly so there will be refreshments and will have to have a shop warming party / bbq thing when it's a little warmer.

Discovered a problem with having my shop so close...

Went to bed last night and could not sleep as besides some back pain I had too many ideas floating around my head concerning my current build.

Let's just say all I need now is some bar tape to match the leather saddle and offset the new fenders.

Wooohooo Coffee AND Bikes? I'm all over that:) We'll be riding this weekend I hope. I've missed it all winter but didn't relish the wet and slush I'd be bringing into the apartment. I have them out of storage though and in the living room so I think a ride is for sure in order.

It is supposed to be really nice on Sunday and the main roads should be pretty clear... am not sure about the north side of the river so might have to do some recon there.

Sundays are for nice rides and coffee at the Second Cup... :)
