There are not many MUPs here, and the few we have, Googlemaps ignores.

I just thought I would share that I submitted some problem reports when Google Maps Bicycle version came online. It took just under 2 months for Google to get the first issue fixed. They do work the issues, though, so if you find a problem, report it.

Yep, same here, about a month ago there was a missing access point for a MUP that I reported, and now it shows up. Found another missing one yesterday which I need to report.

I think it will take longer (or it might not happen at all) for them to refine the more subjective things, like avoiding hills and high crime areas.

Same here, and they actually did fix a problem I reported where a divide freeway was suggested as a route option.

I was kind of impressed, actually. I sent the problem report twice, since I thought it was just a bicycle problem at first and then realized it did the same thing when routing cars (missed a left turn). I got reports quickly that they agreed that it was something that needed to be fixed. When I got the new report that it was closed out, I got one for the bike problem report and one for the car problem report. So they tracked both as the same problem which is pretty good.

I just used Google maps and it exactly predicted my bike route. That's pretty cool.

Now I just wish they would add bike routing to the iPhone map app.

+100 on submitting problem reports. I've submitted four now, I think. Three are already resolved. The other they're working on. FWIW, I assume it helps to substantiate your claim when you submit an report. I try to link to a city or county website/blog, online PDF map, or other resource when possible to show that I'm not just making the stuff up, and I hope that it helped to validate my report and speed correction.

I do appreciate their responsiveness, though. They're going a great job w/ this thing. I still use Ride the City a lot, too. Another gvery valuable mapping resource for cycling if it covers your area.

I'm glad you renewed this thread. There is a MUP near me that I use frequently, and they don't see it for walking or biking. I just reported it to them. It hadn't occurred to me to do that previously.

is there any way to make this work on the iphone?

I just got an email from Google about the missing MUP I reported to them four days ago, saying it is fixed. I then mapped my route to work, choosing bicycle as the mode of transportation, and google maps found it by default.

That was fast. Way cool.

the google maps android app just got an update. full bicycle layer as well as bicycle specific directions on my android 2.1 phone now. WOOHOO!

No fair! Nothing for the iPhone yet.

iPhone's on its way out, unless they get another carrier. Apple wasn't quick enough to act on the poor coverage issue, and Motorola swooped in. iPhone is more elegant of course, as are all Apple products. But that only goes so far.

I think I might upgrade to a Droid or iPhone when my contract is up.

I plotted a route part-way to work with Google Maps cycling, and it looks good. I'm going to try it some time this week.

I haven't noticed an option to report errors, I see a lot of the MUP trails here missing parts and the city's pdf map from their web site is complete, I'd like to report a few.

Using the normal web page I submitted several bike paths that I use in the area. Google first sent me an e-mail stating that they had received my submission. Then a few days later I got an e-mail that I was right, there was a bike path there. And a few days after that I got an e-mail that the bike path had been added to the map. WooHoo!

If you're in Google Maps on the web, there's a link at the bottom right of the map portion of the screen that reads "Report a problem". Click there and away you go! ;)

That's been my experience, too. The more we notice and send them, the better resource it will be.

Interesting, I just checked one of my fixes I submitted right when they launched it and they finally implemented the change. There was a missing "exit" of the bike trail. But I haven't received an e-mail, an there is no "green line" on the bicycle map (yet).

speaking of apps, found a bike shop locator app on android that seems to be pretty good, in case you are on a ride and need something.

Interesting. Re: the e-mail, there is a check box you need to check off to be e-mailed when the reported problem is fixed. Are you sure you checked that at the time? If so, maybe you just fell through the proverbial cracks...

So now I got three e-mails at once telling me all my corrections have been made (actually they had been made weeks ago). At least here (Chicago) it's now a little messy, I have the feeling google took all suggestions, no matter what and applied them. There are bike path in Google maps that don't exist at all.

I wouldn't count on it too much. Apple seems determined to keep Google out of the iPhone. Thats too bad. I think the offerings from Google are far superior. Apple has derailed Google's attempt to put latitude as a native, always on, background application on the iPhone. Similarly they rejected the Google Voice App. Even if Google developed or revised the Mapping program there's no guarantee that Apple would even allow it.
