I usually wear either of two shoes for cycling... my hightop Chucks or an old pair of worn-out soccer cleats. I cut the rubber (not plastic) knobbys almost flush with the sole on the cleats so that they're easy to walk in, have a good amount of grip on most surfaces, have a pretty stiff sole yet the cleats are proud enough to grip the pedal with clips.

The Lake MX101 shoes I suggested can be used with non-clipless pedals. They have a plate over the gap where cleats can be affixed.

Well I don't get why looks are a consideration unless it is simply not possible to keep a pair of shoes at your work place. Once you get rid of that consideration the real question is what is most comfortable to ride in and do whatever errands you might do on the way to and from work.

Yeah i have one pair of commuting shoe... i have taken it from Coach Outlet Store before 7 years...i love my shoes..

Would you consider buying a pair of cycling shoes and simply leaving the covers over the screw holes?

Specialized Tahoe shoes look like normal sneakers, have a relatively solid sole, and are still comfortable enough to wear for general use. (I golfed 18 holes in mine once.) They come with a rubber cap that covers the screw holes.

I rotate between a pair of black New Balance 572s and some Trekker shoes from Lands End. I ride alloy cage pedals w/ a toe clip. I like both pairs of shoes - the Trekkers have a lot of mesh and keep my feet cooler on hot days, so that's a plus this time of year.

May should odd, but it's my goal this summer to go sockless. Sandals all day every day. This is working out great, but I had to put some money into new sandals to get it done. My feet tend to get too hot in shoes and socks, also, I like the feel of my bare feet in my shoes.

I wear sandals to work when I ride by Breezer, which I ride on days when there's any chance of rain. Dress kind, by Timberline. Nice. I also wear these when I drive my car, which I do on days I golf. I've got golf shoes that are sandals, too.

On my good weather bike, a flat bar road bike that I commuted on today, I wear sandal clip in shoes, by shimano. Like them, too.

Life seems simpler without socks.

$12 Walmart Velcros ...commuting is about utility. I get about 1-2 years per pair depending on use (I use them while doing other forms of work). They have relatively firm soles, some arch support, velcro (no chain worries), and are narrow for ease of toe clip use... however I will say that there are different styles and the slick mock leather are ones to avoid as they don't work well in toe clips/srtaps. They are super comfy on my commutes all the way up to half centuries. They are a bit warm, but in these parts... feet sweating is the least of your problems. I've recently found out that they carry these in regular and wide (its Walmart lol)... I prefer regular as to not slip when in athletic socks.

Sneakers or flip-flops. I keep better shoes at my workplace if I need 'em.
