Personally, I like a hooded jacket to compliment my helmet cover, which is a definite combination in keeping me drier and warmer on those cold hard driving rain commutes.

I sure hope so.....

I go to the Goodwill, find a jacket and pants I like for $3.00.Buy a bottle of DWR and coat them.Breathable rain gear for $10.00.For cold weather gear,I coat them with tent floor sealer for $15.00.

For $400.00 I can hire one of the kids on the block to ride with me for the winter and hold an umbrella.

Not enough to be a factor since the hood only covers half my helmet (helmet cover takes care of the rest) giving me plenty of peripheral vision, and no more of a problem as a full face motorcycle helmet would be. I can still turn my head, plus I use a bar end mirror instead of a helmet mounted version.

I bought a pair of pants and the hooded jacket from the RainShield O2 Rainwear set of clothing. They were waterproof, super light weight, super-duper breathable, but a bit roomy in fit for me. Plus, the fabric is a touch on the fragile side, but that's probably what you get when you don't pay $400 for the full outfit. Still, if you're on a budget, you can't beat this performance.

Or this relatively impressive review from some of these satisfied customers:

Jacket is on sale here now: https://penncycle.com/product/09-rain...acket-4141.htm

I hope they will price match the difference as I'm still waiting to get credited on the price match for the pants.

I just got the Jacket and Pants and they fit well! No pockets except for on the back of the jacket under a flap with a zipper. It fits well over my jeans and shirt and could probably fit a sweater or two underneath. Can't wait to test it out. I AM PRAYING FOR RAIN NOW! Also got the waterproof socks earlier which have been working well. (see my other thread).

PS: Gotta Ride Bikes did price-match, even after the purchase. I recommend them!

Yes... I orderer a J&G non-breathable rain jacket in size XL and had to send it back. It would have made a great bivy sack.

So then ordered size L and put it in my pannier and ... wouldn't you know it... it hasn't rained here in a month (at least while I'm on the road.)

I'm just glad I bought my rain gear when I did- we've been getting doused and I rode today into work in a suit and tie and was dry as could be when I arrived.

I completely agree with this!

I have a pair of REI Stratos jacket and pants - they work wonderfully.
