Michelin CiTY's, 26 x 1.4. At REI for $28. I have the 700 x 35's, and my wife is about to get the one's listed. I've loved mine so far. Not a single flat yet (and I've pulled goat-heads out of the tires before!). Knock on wood, of course.

I just rode with my wife to drop her off at work. About a block from the house I got a flat. I'd be pissed if it weren't so funny. |
Geax Streetrunner. I've been riding the 1.6"(40mm) version on city streets for a bit. They roll well, smooth center rib, no flats(yet). 75 psi rated, your 11yo wouldn't require that high a pressure. Don't remember what I paid at my LBS, but they weren't expensive. Don't care for the garish logo, but that's my only nit.

F Y I: I put a set of the Forte Metros on both my wife's and my older MTBs last year, which are the bikes we take in to San Francisco. (Don't want to worry about the road bikes getting stolen.) There we encounter ALL different types of road & weather conditions. The tires work just fine for us....not a single flat or regret. The price is right too.

You're right about the source; it isn't changed I still get the links to go.bikeforums.net when viewing properties, I assume it's modifying the DOM via javascript. Also, my proxy stopped blocking it so it's less of an issue for me now. Also, it's really off-topic anyway and I shouldn't have ranted. I'm going to see if I can edit it a bit.

I'm a little bit shocked by the reviews of the Kwests so far. I had them on my 700c bike, and had 8 flats (7 rear) in the first 1500km. These weren't re-flats, where I missed pulling out the offending debris. They were each different pieces of debris puncturing the tire. After only 1500km the tires were covered with punctures and holes - I would never try them again. I switched to Marathons on that bike and have had one flat in the next 4000km, covering the same route for the majority of those kms. The Marathons are about 2.5 times the price, but so worth it for me.

I got some no-name (probably Kendas) 1.5 tires with kevlar flat protection. Used them for a couple years, swapped them over to my wife's bike, about $20/ea, which is a bargain for tires with kevlar.
Recently converted a 26in wheel urban bike to middle distance commuter duty. Swapped out the 2.2" Bontrager Hanks for 1.25" Panaracer T-Serv w/ flat protection. $60/ea retail, probably more than you want to spend on the grand kids, but awesome for a 38mi r/t commute |
I'm very fond of the basic GEAX slicks I got at my LBS; once I put tire liners into them, they flat once every few months while riding on Honolulu's dirty and bumpy streets.
A kid won't notice the difference between 55 and 105 PSI; once you get above 50 they're generally fine. You may as well take advantage of all that energy to give her cheap tires that handle terrain well. |

Were they the ones with puncture protection? Kenda has two versions;low psi with protection(K shield?),and higher psi without. I've only ever used the 65psi 26x1.5's and have never had any probs.
