MTB to Road for commuting

I was commuting about 10k one way a day on my Giant 780. I ran 1.5 slicks on it for a smoother ride.
I moved further away and now I'm looking at a 30 k one way. I have done some weekend ride on my MTB bike..45-50k on a Sunday..killer ride though. So I think it's time to change the bike.

I was thinking about a touring bike. LHT or the Aurora but I have done some recreational Duathionals last year, and would like to continue at a more competitive lvl. So the thought of a performance road bike seemed more logical.

I have been looking at a Scott Speedster s20. It's retailing for a 1600.00. I'm not totally up to date with components seeing that my MTB has Shimano STX on it.. but it seem like a nice bike for the pricing.

If anyone if familiar with Scott or could even comment on the set up I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers

Sounds like a cyclocross bike might work, too. A little lighter and slightly less relaxed geometry than a touring bike like an LHT. Not a featherlight carbon frame by any strecth of the imagination, but perhaps a compromise.

Of course, nothing wrong w/ commuting on a high-performance roadie if that's what you want, too...
