Rode Clipless For The First Time Today And Didn't Fall...
...but I did discover a whole bunch of leg muscles that are going to have to get stronger! I think I'm going to be a wee bit sore tomorrow. :)

Good job on the ride. I took me six months to break my virginity, (fall) on clipless ;)
May yours be longer Dave |
I've never fallen in five years, except when trackstanding while clipped in, which really doesn't count.

I was doing fine with the clipless pedals until last summer. I had come to a stop at the intersection of two county roads, put my left foot down, and then a big gust of wind came from that direction (east at the time). That wind blew me over the opposite way causing me to fall to my right, the side that was still locked in. You kind of feel like the Coyote going off a cliff!

I went down 2wice now both times at intersections. The last time I have no Idea what happened. I had quite an audience too but of coarse I got up like I meant to fall over to test my Computer pannier out. I am learning that riding with clips requires a different strategy than riding with flat peddles

Only managed to fall once out on the road. Intersection. Trying to track stand as the light was about to change. Just flopped on my side LOL.
Managed to about fall on the walk in front of my house once but I grabbed the porch support. |

Been riding clipless for a couple months now, haven't fallen yet...I hope it lasts.

Took my first clipless ride on Sunday... 7 miles through city streets with lotsa intersections. I sure got my practice. No falling, yet.

If you went from clips/straps to clipless it is unlikely you will ever fall because of clipless.
|
Had one good "holy s**t!" moment since starting with clipless last year, but no falls yet...
|
I had mine on my bike for 10 min when it happened, I was practicing clipping my left foot in and out while keeping my right foot free. I then clipped in both and while tootling around my front yard suddenly realized my cleat on the right foot was too loose to unclip from the pedal. After I fell over, I quickly looked around to see if any of my neighbors had seen. Luckily no one was outside but I was still fearful that a you tube video would soon be out titled "Doofus falls off bike" LOL. But glad to say once the cleat was tightened that I havent fallen since. :-)

I've been riding clipless for a couple years now and fell a couple times when I first put them on trying to get the tension right. No falls since until 2 weeks ago. The wife and I were riding along a beach bike path on a Saturday afternoon. We were going through a ped heavy area near the entrance to a pier so we were going pretty slow when a couple stepped in front of me I tried yelling to get their attention, to no avail, at about the time I came to a complete stop I thought oh S**t I forgot to clip out. I just flopped over right beside them, that finally got their attention  . It was fairly humourous, I had no one to be mad at just myself, I knew I should have been clipped out as I approached the crowded area.
Speaking of trackstands. Going home last Friday I was cruisiing along with a racer looking guy that was obviously on a recovery ride. We barely missed a light that has a notoriously long cycle. So i'm standing there right foot on the ground and this dude was doing a trackstand perfectly still, no wobbles or anything. I'm staring at this guy, admittedly fairly impressed, and look to my right and there was a couple waiting for the walk signal looking at this guy. They look at me and kind of give me a look of "Well, how about you?" I just said, "I'm not in the circus, I can't do that." They laughed and the guy turns to look and laughed as well, mind you, while still remaining perfectly still. |
I fell twice years ago, once in my yard I got distracted by my dog and another time I got kadywumpus against a curb and went down. Other than that, no issues. It is just not a big deal.
