RoadID question & poll
I had asked some questions about the RoadID in the Clydes forum and thought i would add to that here with a poll and see how or if you use your RoadID.

I have been wearing a RoadID for some years now. I wear one on my ankle and am always asked if it is a monitoring system. I never take it off and consider it a "fashion accessory" to help save my life.

When commuting I've always got some ID in my bag. I've been thinking about getting a Road ID for recreational rides. Right now, I just carry a driver's license or some other ID in my seat bag.

I don't have one right now, but I'm planning a week-long tour (my first) in a bit over a month. It looks like this might be worth having. I wish you could buy lifetime interactive subscriptions instead of year-by-year, though.

I use a dog tag I got from a company on line -- BoomerangTags. Someone on this forum had recommended them.
These tags are excellent -- very legible, front and back, on a high-quality chain.
I like the dog tags better than Road ID-style band ... because I already get more than enough wierd tan lines from riding my bike.

Dog tags. Someone mentioned at some point that a RoadID on your shoe doesn't help if your shoe is separated from your body.

Dog tags on a flimsy neck chain can come off pretty easy in an impact trauma, too. We laced one tag into our bootlaces in the Corps, because boots tend to burn last.
I used to use the wrist band. I wear the dogtag now, partly because it's comfortable and unobtrusive, partly because its what I'm used to and partly because the wrist band gets too smelly.

I got the fancy one with the rubber strap. I wear it whenever I ride and sometimes off the bike too. My wife's cousin, who's a firefighter in Tualatin Co., Oregon (home of lots of riders), said he's passing the word to his fellow first responders to be on the lookout for these.

I use the dog tag style. I have the location Earth design on the front of mine. Just in case I get abducted by aliens. Although, I am not completely comfortable with the concept of being abducted by aliens that are too stupid to remember where they got me from.

I have the wrist sport version that I wear when I ride. I have the tan lines to prove it. I think it's a good investment. The writing on the tag has faded to the point where it's almost not legible. I was thinking about going with dog tag version when I replace it. I was also thinking about ditching the on-line option. How much more info do first responders need that doesn't fit on a standard tag?

if I read it correct they have a lifetime warranty on the tag. they may send you a new one.

I wear the dog tag. I don't have the online version, but my wife does (wrist style for her). She has several med allergies which are important if you need a ride to the hospital. I only wear mine when on the bike, she wears hers all the time.

I have a dog tag from RoadID, got it years ago. I also have the exact same info on a pet ID tag that I paid $4 for. I certainly wouldn't pay the money for a Road ID anymore. I don't have any medical conditions that I'd need the online service for so I don't really see the point in paying more than about 5 bucks for an ID.
I have the dog tag around my neck, and another one in the laces of my left shoe.

I always have my wallet in my bag when I ride, (don't like it in my pocket), but I like to have an id on my body in case a car hits me hard enough to tear off my bag and its contents. Or if i'm knocked out and get robbed. (hey, it's L.A.)

I don't see any reason[1] you couldn't buy an "original" (non-interactive) RoadID and have it include a URL to your own personal website. It wouldn't be hard to "roll your own" system similar to their subscription service.

As far as terms of service, I'm pretty positive they can't enforce terms of service for what you have on a website listed on your tag. They could refuse to print tags that say something along the lines of "For more medical and contact information, visit www.example.com", but that's about it.

I type my name, address and contact numbers on a piece of paper, cut it to business card size, laminate it and carry it with my drivers license. I make a smaller one with reduced font size for my helmet and secure it with clear packing tape.

There are some debate threads here on BF about Road ID. The really interesting posts are from first responders. It's worth the search if you're interested in that kind of stuff. They have some great stories (and good advice like don't rely on ID in your bag or taped to your bike because it can get separated from you in a bad accident).
