Cheap wool

Hi.

I'm looking for a lightweight wool shirt or two, as well as some socks.

Anyone know of any good deals out there these days?

Cheapest is thrift stores. The rest will likely be in online sales, since they're out of season pretty much everywhere. for biking-specific wear, I've been seeing some occasionally on chainlove and bonktown.com, lately. I got a very light Hincapie merino zip neckl last month off bonktown for under $30.

I don't know about Cheap
Smart Wool
Ibex
They both make Great Wool Clothing, and cycling specific clothing.
A good wool shirt or socks is worth the money,
Last long with good care, and the ability to keep you warm even when your wet, and keep you dry even when your hot.
I don't think you can go wrong with that,

If you are looking for cheaper, maybe look at a NOT name brand outdoors store, they sometime will carry different brands, or maybe even an army surplus store.

with even cheap wool just follow good care instructions.

I picked up a $125 Nike wool Jersey for $25 on clearance at a bike shop, only because The Roadies in the area dont understand wool is still the best.

Socks you will probably want to stick with Smart Wool only because they do good thin socks. you don't want something to thick,

I did get some nice bamboo socks at Sams Club, they are really good, i know they are wool but bamboo has some nice properties

If you come across anything good your self, please let us know.

I don't know if they plan to stock them again, but I got 2 merino wool sweaters (Kirkland brand) at Costco for $20 each. Fantastic for the price.

Check at online shops like Campmor and Sierra Trading Post. They've got hit-or-miss inventory, but you can catch a good deal there sometimes.

I missed these last year. I saw them and then went home to think about it. I guess I thought too long.

Yes, actually.

Backcountry.com is having a sale on Stoic long-sleeved merino shirts. Their 17.5 micron fabric is softer than most of the cotton I own. The ones without zippers or pockets are selling for $32 right now; I think I paid $40 or $45 for the couple I have. The ones with a zip and pocket are $40 at present; I paid $55 for the three I have. I just ordered a few more of both. I love the pocket, personally, but because the fabric is so thin, I wouldn't try to hold anything of much weight in it. A pair of sunglasses, etc. You could technically fit a book in there, I'd be worried about stretching, or even tearing, the fabric.

I've heard good things about Minus33, and they use 17.5 micron fibers in their light-weight clothes.

Thrift stores. Got 2 lambs wool sweaters for $2 each.

Apparently one is even a "polo", whatever that means. A co-worker was appalled I was using it for bike wear.

I've had some luck finding Smart Wool cycling jerseys at Sierra Trading Post for about $30 - $35 a jersey. The quality is outstanding.

Y'all have some ridiculous thrift stores. Mine never have things that nice.
