New to commute

Hello all,

Just starting commuting to work, if you can call it a commute. It is about a mile, but that is why I quit driving. I am a teacher and, believe it or not, I am the only person (students included) who rides a bike to get here. Of course, no bike racks availble so I keep the bike in my room. Even if there were some I doubt I would trust the kids (high school).

Anyway, just thought I would share. I love the experience, love the questions, love being made fun of for the pinhead helmet. Feels good to help wear off the day. I am riding a Trek 4300 MTB, upgraded the pedals so my feet wouldn't slip to a BMX style platform, getting some slicks soon.

Cool! I had a teacher in the 3rd grade that rode a road bike to school and back and I remember that still as being cool even way back then.

I had a jr high teacher that would ride to work every day. Back then I didn't understand why he did that...but now I commute every day, for over 2yrs.

My commute is short too, about 1.5miles, i like it because I have the option of a short, fast non-sweaty commute or a longer ride after work.

You'll be surprised how much better slicks are!

Welcome 24601!

It makes me happy when teachers commute via bicycle. Seeing that bike in your classroom will greatly influence the next generation of cyclists. Plus, you will always be remembered by your students as the teacher who biked to school.

Keep up the good work!

Find a set of stairs on campus and huck yourself down it during lunch and the kids will stop making fun of you (unless you fall)

Let me guess.... you're a fan of Les Miserables, 24601? My choir teacher, errrr I mean my uhhh.... "welding instructor", used to ride his bike to school everyday and just leave it at the back of the choir room, errr I mean "shop".

Yes, I used to teach English and love to teach the novel Les Mis. Now I teach Spanish, but I have had the name for a while.

Out of all the teachers at your school, you'll probably be the one the students remember most at their 10-year reunion:

"Hey remember Mr/Ms 24601 who used to ride that bike to school?"

"Yeah, sure do. I wonder what happened to him/her?"

Its Mr, just for information sake.

Lets just say I get remembered for a lot of things, most of which I probabyl shouldn't do. When is the last time you heard of a teacher scaring another teacher by crawling through the ceiling? That one was great.
