Professor. Among the advantages are that I can usually avoid commuting at rush hours, and I get to park my bike, plus a spare, in my office.

I work overnights at a group home for teens. It allowed me to finish grad school and hopefully find a job in Academic Advising.

Engineer... I design complex multi-layer printed circuit boards for wireless devices... from sat comm gear, to cell phones, to RF cards buried deep in vending machines that "call home" when they need a refill. I've done everything from communications installations on isolated islands to grinding out RF PWB designs in near "sweat shop" conditions... (lots of time pressure, noisy small cubes, bad lighting).

I am currently unemployed (or should I say "between positions") and have been working various temp CAD/PWB jobs since March of 2009. The startup I was working for at the time "ran out of money" and folded, putting 450 engineers out on the street. I have over 30 years experience.

Most of the time I sit in front of a good computer or workstation working on these complex mulitlayer designs; sometimes I am in a lab testing the results of my designs. I generally work in shirtsleeves, and usually there are shower facilities somewhere nearby as most of these engineering firms tend to be in light industrial or campus type settings.

I have bike commuted as much as 30 miles one way and as little as 6 miles, depending on the employer at the time. At a couple of places I have worked, we had bike lockers, gyms, nice showers... everything... real nice.

Im a mailman, I walk 3 days a week and ride 2. The days I walk I sometimes have trouble getting up the last hill on my way home. Luckily my commute is only 8 miles each way.

I am an aircraft mechanic, self-employed. I maintain a small private fleet for various owners. I work at a local casino in the valet department for the insurance. Pay is not bad.

Network Manager for US Dept of Veterans Affairs. I manage an NT network, routers and switches, PCs and wireless systems. 9.9 to 10.1 mile commute, depending on how many corners I cut.

I'd like to say hi to mom and dad, my brothers and sister, all the kids at school and the gang at the Bowl-o-Rama.

I'm a librarian-- a middle manager in the cataloging department of an academic library. My commute's just long enough to get warmed up, or wet if it's raining: 3 miles.
