I've gotten compliments on my lights (PBSF) and on my reflective vest. Even had a guy (when we were stopped for a light, I was turning left) say that I was easier to see than the bicycle cops (who around here wear all black on black bikes with black bags all with minimal reflective strips and pipping.)

Hahaha, I get honked at with 1 front white big light, a rear 5-LED red on my post, and a little red blinker on my bag. But I always get smiles and waves from strangers in traffic, along with all the another good ones like "Nice bike ***!" and the like.

Yeah, most of the above are familiar, though I think in general pedestrians are more likely than drivers to pick up a conversation with a cyclist. A couple additions:
I get "nice bike!" quite a bit, but I think it's facetious; a tall man on a folding bike with 16" wheels looks a bit comical. I also get "cool bike," though, which I think is more genuinely complimentary. I've had drivers yell out my speed a few times, which I take as a compliment if it's a respectable speed. |
i had a driver thank me for where my neon green cycling jersey (my wife says i must wear it in order to
ride on the road, its non negotiable), the driver said she wished all cyclists wore them as it would make it easier for her to see and avoid them. |

I insisted she ride with one of my old neon green reflective vests...my friend was wearing a white shirt and declined my offer of a vest for him, too. When we came home my wife said I'd made a believer out of her, since she could instantly see me in my vest and (even though he was searing white) sometimes the friend was hard to see. |
I do, fairly often... but I'm on an Xtracycle and have good lights, and the infrastructure where I'm usually riding (and where I get more compliments) lends itself to harmony.
I realized at one point that "Great lights!" is somethign I hear (one fellow a little while back pulled over to ask about them) more often than "get on the sidewalk!" IT helps when they're on a Christmas tree... |
I pulled left around an SUV that was making a right turn and the woman leaned out the window and said thanks. I didn't have time to say anything back, but I thought "for what? not getting myself runned over?"

Somebody once expressed relief that they didn't turn me into a human pancake. Does that count?

Road riding in Asheville, NC, with a buddy of mine, and we were stopped at a red light. Car comes up to us on our left and I hear the middle aged man passenger say "look at the pretty boys in their spandex shorts, you're so pretty". We both look at the redneck and say thank you. I don't think it was a compliment, but we took it as one:)

"Nice taillight!" -> When I was running the semi-trailer LED taillight. It was too heavy for the mount I had and broke off. I switched to a Superflash.
"Nice Light!" -> My DX P7 flashlight on high. "Nice Bike!" Once, by another cyclist. Pretty sure he was being ironic as it's a old, heavy, beat up, cheap 20 year old hybrid. No comments on my physique as of yet. Still hoping; I wasn't overweight to start with but those miles sure make the calves pop. |
