"Commuting" to group rides

This year I've been making a concerted effort to "commute" to group rides rather than drive my truck. It adds another 20 miles to the ride and helps further reduce my driving. I was just running the numbers on my cycling log and was really surprised what a difference it has made. So far, I've ridden an extra 420 miles than if I had driven. It's also a great way to get in some long rides since most of my cycling buddies seldom want to ride more than 40 miles or so.

How long are your group rides normally?

I never really have done a "group ride" but I do find it silly to Drive to ride, especially places not far,

I can understand driving to a different town(20+miles maybe) to ride

Yup, I try and ride to the several group rides in the LA area.

It's not always possible though, and for sure, driving to ride is better than no ride at all.

I do find it challenging to do the long group rides (80-100 mile rides with mountain climbing) when I have to tack on another 12 miles there and back on top for the commute.

I try to ride to group rides that are within 10-15 miles from home when time allows.

At one of the weekly rides, we have a hardcore commuter who shows up in his work attire after riding 20 miles from his office. That's an impressive feat, but he likes to make certain that everyone knows it by remarking "wow, a lot of people drove here tonight!" I try not to be that guy.

I rarely drive to group rides... like maybe 3 or 4 times since I started riding again. For the ride I do most frequently it adds about 15 miles to the ride. I don't think I've ever driven to that one.

I do that when the start is within 10 or 15 miles.
Last year I went on a nice 90 mile ride with some guys that hammered the whole way, the parking lot was about 20 miles from home. That is the closest I have come to an authentic bonk.
