A little help with fenders please?
I'm about to order some Planet Bike Cascadia touring fenders for my TriCross.
Here's the bike: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...nuItemId=12187 http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/IMG_1380.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q.../IMG_1362s.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/IMG_1370.jpg Here's the fenders at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Ca...pr_product_top So here are the questions: The bike has 700x32 cyclocross tires. What size should I get? 45mm, 35mm road, or 45mm hybrid? Planetbike.com is not much help here. It seems like it has front fender mounts, but that it would have to share the rear mounts with the rack. I'm not sure. Will these fenders work? Thanks. |
The Planet Bike Hardcore Hybrid Fenders at 45mm will fit those tires perfectly. You'll like them, too!
http://ecom1.planetbike.com/7006.html My LBS sells these for $29, so you might want to ask around. |
I run the 45mm PB Cascadias with the long fender flaps, keeps my feet dryer, more Fredness.

Get the 45 mm Cascadias. The 35 mm would be too narrow.

One lowrider rack, the Tubus Tara, has extra eyelets for fenders. Note that, if you go this route, you might want to trim the stays (if you need to) so that you can mount the fenders to the rack and to the bike (without the rack). Mounting the fenders to the bike requires longer stays than mounting to the rack. |
I recently mounted some cascadias on my Sputnik SS. I had to use "P" brackets. My tires are skinnier, but the mounting should give you some ideas. I like the fenders - lots of coverage, but still solid.
Here's the thread with some pics: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...s-on-a-Sputnik |
Thanks for the tips. 45mm it is.
Does anyone know the difference between the 45mm and 45mm Hybrid models? |
Hybrid Cascadias have full mud flap and 2 struts on each side of front frender,
Hardore Hybrid has short mudflap and a single strut on each side of front fender, Full Hybrid has no flap, single strut. |
I have PB Hardcore (hybrid/touring) on my Surly Cross Check. Be aware that any TCO you had before will be amplified with the installation of fenders.
I run 32mm tires on my Cross Check and I have tons of room with the PB Hardcore fenders and they fully cover the tires by just enough. |
