Doing an hour commute then having to spend an hour cleaning my bike after work sucks.

I live in south Florida on the Gulf...The rain, when light is fine, but as you know, it can really poor here, combined that with flooding, wind and sand......it really makes things interesting to say the least!

Still beats driving the car though!

I sent this reply to a rain hater on a thread similar to this one back in August 2009:

You guys are ALL crazy!!! I'm sorry to be the SINGLE voice of dissent but its a major hassle to get soaked. I go through extraordinary pains to keep myself and my bike dry, I guess commuting takes all types.

10+. I used to completely avoid riding in the rain, even with my beater mountain bike. I have learned to accept it after a few suggestions on some Forum threads. The practice came in handy this June while training for a century because there were so many rain days. My summer rainwear includes a baseball cap as described above, and plastic bags to go over and tucked into my socks to keep them dry, or at least free of road grime. I also carry a large plastic bag to cover my rear trunk bag, and small baggies to cover my computer.

For you rain lovers, someone once posted to a Forum about what gets kicked up from the road surface, besides grease and other chemicals, to include "liquified road kill." :p

I rode in the rain this morning for the first three of my 14 mile commute. :notamused:

Love riding in rain, especially on the warmer days. If you ever tour it is extremely difficult to avoid rain and you learn to love it quickly despite that it will probably slow you down SOME and be slightly more dangerous out there, I notice I can ride a whole days ride on about half the water, I never get that over heating or nauseous feeling, It's weirdly more peaceful than riding on the beautiful days.

I like the James Bond approach to riding in the rain. In one of the old movies, James Bond infiltrates some sort of fancy party, coming in under water. He climbs out of the water, pulls off the air tanks and dry suit, and there he is in a tuxedo.

I try to get the right gear so I can ride in regular clothes, covered by rain gear, arrive at work or home, take off the rain gear, and there I am comfortable and dry. So I look at rain days as chances to test the equipment.

It's a work in progress.

Now that its summer I don't dress any differently when it rains or doesn't rain... Shorts, sandals and bicycle.

Well I really can't say I enjoy riding in the rain. However I still do it.

I went for a ride with my friend in the rain yesterday. After about 20 minutes it started pouring. We werent going to get any wetter, so no use worrying about it. We both got a tad chilly at one stage, talked about it and both went for a bit of a sprint. No problems after that. :)

I just started commuting this month and have gotten wet many times already. No rain gear yet, but my commute is short. Love it.
