Bicycle Commuting Pays Dividends

Literally, it does.

On my way home today I found a $20 bill just blowing around on the street. Gotta love it.

I saw two coins (I think they were nickels) on the road this morning, but I didn't think it was worth stopping to pick them up. :)

Two weeks ago I found a Klein Tools electrician's screwdriver. It was dirty but cleaned up perfectly. They're worth about $20 new. I've probably found $50 or $60 in tools over the years.

The only "money" I pick up is beer cans. Some people who drive my route must like really crappy beer, because almost every day I could probably pick up a couple of Bud Lite cans.

The only real money I've ever found was still in the wallet with ID, so it just got taken to the police dept.

I saw a 50 euro note on the ground once and stopped to pick it up. To my utter disappointment, it wasn't 50 euros, it was 50 "heros". A piece of Christian propaganda designed to look like EU currency. :(

How can you feel good knowing that you may have deprived some poor wino of a week's worth of Ripple?

$20 is a good haul. I found four $1 bills once. I was psyched about that, but a twenty?! Good work!

I have found $11 just up the street from my house while out on two wheels. Around the corner was a $10 bill waiting for me by a car door when I ran by. Being on a bike makes on more observant to ones environment that is why it is easy to find good stuff.

I ran over a wrench the other week. When I stopped to pick it up, I found a couple more and a ratchet. All crappy craftsmen stuff, so not too exciting.

I found a perfectly good clip on blinky light. Now, it's on the back of my pannier.

nashvillwill 06-09-10 02:19 PM

i find broken glass all the time. I have a collection of it in my tires.

dcrowell 06-09-10 02:44 PM

I found an LED flashlight with working batteries. I have found a few coins, but the total is probably less than 50 cents.

I don't know, otherwise I would have retrieved it!

wolfchild 06-09-10 04:34 PM

Few weeks ago I found a 10mm wrench. I have also come across abondened bicycles ( old road bikes), I regret for not going back and picking them up, it would of been a nice project bike to work on.

Wow the wind is really strong to blow the $20 bill that I lost while cycling last week all the way to Fort Worth. PM me for the return address; I appreciate your honesty and you should keep $10 as a reward.

Couple of weeks ago, I picked up a near mint condition Topeak Road Morph pump. It was just sitting in the middle of the road.
It wasn't yours, was it?

cyberphat 06-09-10 10:44 PM

No, it found you.

Yes it was, wonder how it got to Des Moines. I'll pick it up from you next time I get there. Thanks.

I've found wrenches and a few tools. The other day, I found three new packages of balloons by the MUP. Great find.

Oh no, you took the ransom money!! Now those gangsters will never return little pepe to us! They are probably putting his fingers into a blender right now :(

tarwheel 06-10-10 12:41 PM

The only thing that I've found that was worth picking up was some Ray Ban sunglasses. However, the lenses were scratched up and they weren't worth buying new ones since I need prescription lenses.
