Ahhh Rain!

It's been quite hot here recently. Pretty much every day in the last two weeks has had a "chance" of rain, but I managed to miss the rain while commuting... until this morning. I was caught in a torrential downpour for several miles. By the time I got to work it was sunny and dry.

I love this weather. The rain kept me from overheating. There's a "chance" of thunderstorms this afternoon for the commute home. I'd prefer that the lightning keep it's distance, but bring on the rain... even if I did ride the recumbent and get to suffer with "squishy-seat" syndrome. :)

That's how it's been in Knoxville... but it's pretty bad because it just makes it very humid and hot. I was coming back today at 5:00pm and even though I was going about 27mph downhill, the wind blowing past me still felt warm and didn't seem to cool me down as much as it usually does.

I got caught in a really bad down pour last Wednesday. My roommate was driving to work at the same time, and said that her wipers, on full speed, still weren't enough. I made it to class pretty dry because of my rain gear. That's also when it stopped raining.

It's now the rainy season here in norther Japan so there is pretty much going to be a chance of rain everyday for the next month or so. Rain gear is pretty much what occupies my bag from now on. Good times.

I seem to remember "Rain", although we haven't actually seen it around these parts for some time...

I don't use rain gear in the warmer weather. It feels good to get wet. :) I have a change of clothes wrapped securely in a trash bag stuffed in the pannier.

My ride home yesterday was hot and sunny. It was nice, until I had to stop and the sweat would run into my eyes. I really need a headband or something.

My feelings are the opposite, I've seen enough rain locally, and now we going into a warm dry spell which is a relief for me.

Where I live, rain is always cold. Sometimes rain even requires wearing winter gloves to keep the hands from freezing.

After an almost desert-like spring, it's been cool and rainy for about a month and half. I'm tempted to complain, but we've had years of drought, so I think it's a good thing. I do still enjoy rain riding, there's a lovely smell and a kind of otherworldly feel to it. My wife, however, does not appreciate the mud puddle by the door where I leave my bike to dry off.

I used to think I knew what a torrential downpour was until I was watching Jeopardy the other night. According to Jeopardy, Luzon, Philippines once got 45 INCHES of rain in one day. Now that's some rain!

Wrap the seat cushion in a plastic shopping bag. Slippery but effective.

I think I'd rather deal with squishy than slippery.
