I'm gonna get wet today
its been a while so I guess I can't complain, right?
I wasn't gonna ride today cuz rain was predicted for the evening. I slept late and it was even garbage and recycling day. the weather guy assured everyone in metro Boston that the rain would be in Western MA by 5:00 pm. So I figure I'm good to ride home in the Natick/Concord area at 5:00 right? the radar image seems to indicate that I'M A FOOL FOR LISTENING TO THE WEATHER GUY! |
We've been gettin wet since last October. Haven't had one day to reach 75 deg. F this year. really wet spring in the Pacific northwet
sorry to hear that. yesterday was gorgeous here, just shorts and a shirt and little bit of sunscreen ...
It's been raining just about daily for the past two weeks. I've been getting very lucky and hitting the tail end or start of it every day so I haven't had to deal with downpours except for one day.
Still... Been getting wet for two weeks. I hear ya. |

What's wrong with rain? Rode home in the rain the other day and loved it! Although I was in clothes that didn't soak in the rain.. wouldn't want to do that in my work clothes!
Yep, I'll be riding in the rain too, but this is New England, so I always carry rain gear for the commute. That reminds me — I need to buy some rain shoes to leave at work.
At least you won't have to put on sunscreen.
Guess I shouldn't of said anything looks like I'll be getting wet also.
As long as it's not a torrential downpour or really windy storm, I have grown to love riding in the rain. No fair-weather cyclists to share lanes with, less pedestrian traffic, and... well, I've just begun to think rainy rides are kinda fun.

Best rain policy: if it isn't raining in the morning as you head to work, it won't rain in the afternoon. If this turns out to be wrong, you get wet... big deal. If it is raining in the morning, there is usually a small patch of lightness in the sky indicating it will soon stop. So best if you ride to work. If your assumption proves wrong, you get wet... big deal... |
I made it home in one piece and it didn't rain too hard. shoes wet so if I were to ride tomorrow I would wear different shoes
Rumrunn6, we must listen to the same weather guy. Just as I left my office in Cambridge at 5:15, it started to come down on me. Thankfully it stayed on the lighter side until I got on the train.
I'm in Natick so I got it before you west to east ... glad it let up for most of my ride. I left just after the heavy stuff
My rule is usually to dress for yesterday's weather, but look out the window before I leave and adjust as necessary.
It sucks to get soaked heating into work. But on the ride home, it's really not a big deal, because we all have a hot shower and clean clothes waiting for us at home. Except the hippies. |
I have been a rain wimp in the last few years, not riding to work if the forecast called for rain. Consequently I missed a lot of good ride days where it might rain a little in the morning and then be fine in the afternoon or vice versa. I credit riding with a friend that rides almost everyday rain or shine. I've got good raingear and the rain will only get to the skin then stop so what the heck. I've ridden way more miles since learning to embrace the rain, provided its not lightening which is something we don't get much of around here. Besides its almost summer here and everyone knows the difference in Western Washingtons winter and summer. The summer rain is warm

Amen. I didn;t ride Saturday because rain was predicted (yet again) but Sunday was predicted clear. Didn;t rain on Saturday. Rain pouring on Sunday. But I rode two hours anyway and had a blast. Two days commuted to work. Rain predicted all day. No rain Am commute (in fact sunshine) but poured on the ride home. Had a blast. So I have come to the conclusion that for rain, only lighting and cold temps will stop me (and not weather predictions - at least here in Chicagoland), and be prepared with clothing for rain.

I made the mistake of driving yesterday because the forecasters were calling for thunderstorms all day. We ended up getting a few wimpy showers that didn't start until after 6 pm. I gotta stop watching the weather so much. We are in a weather pattern right now in NC where it can rain just about any day, any time. It is very hot and muggy and thunderstorms pop up all over the place, but they are very scattered and don't last too long.
