I rode into my bank's parking lot and made a right turn. I ran into some oil during my turn. I slid and hit ground. I sat there with a WTF? look on my face. I went inside, told a teller, deposited my paycheck, and then a manager wrote up an accident report.

On the positive side, you didn't get hurt.

On the negative side, it makes you look like a wuss when you take the time to take pictures and post about your accident when all you did was get a tiny little scrape on your arm and got your pants dirty.

It is against the rules to post accident pics without any blood. For shame.

But it's his first time, so we can cut him some slack. Next time I'm sure he'll do it right and at least crack his helmet or break a collarbone.

why's there so much oil in the lot?

PS. if this is the worst accident you ever have, you'll be a lucky cyclist

I think you're fortunate that you only got a few scrapes. That's better than blood and dismembered appendages any day. Since the bank took an accident report, if you go to a doctor make sure to contact the bank and their insurance will probably take care of it.

He probably deserves one. It sucks to crash. However the fault doesn't lie with the bank. Holy crap! If you ride a bike very far you learn that there are certain things that can make you crash. Oil, water, ice, snow, debris, cars, pedestrians etc.

The point is that if you plan to ride much you have to learn (sometimes the hard way) what to avoid. That oil spot is pretty obvious to spot in the pictures. You can blame the bank if you want and probably have a case. However that won't keep you from crashing the next time you ride into an oil slick. Just consider it a lesson learned and be glad you didn't get hurt worse.

One of the worst bike wrecks i have ever had, i am sure i could have sued the city and gotten ritch. I was riding down a very steep "walking" trail that happend to have a landscape timber astride of it that the city had placed there to control erosion. I hit it at about 15 MPH and did and endo. My first reaction was to go get them. Then i thought..........hmmmm riding fast down a trail that you don't have any idea what is up ahead........you're fault dummy.

On one hand, man, it sucks when you're not really paying attention and something like this can take you down. It's sort of humiliating, especially if there are others watching. But, humility can be a good thing. Also good for your that the oil and swellbow are the extent of your injuries.

On the other hand, I hope that there is not a lawsuit pending (why the accident report then?) or that compensation is not otherwise being sought from the bank. The banks insurance shouldn't be held liable. The photos clearly show an area with dark patches (that most cyclists would avoid if possible). They also demonstrate the area was visible from what I'd consider a reasonable enough difference to avoid it, unless the rider was going at more than moderate clip....

Hey, sometimes we don't pay attention when we should, and we have to take our licks.
At least you're okay.

I'm sorry but I don't type NARRATIVES with excuses/explainations. If you wanna read'em, here goes.

The incident happened 2 hours before I took those pictures. At the time, it was cloudy, and therefore seeing anything on the pavement would be a lot harder. Furthermore, when approaching intersection type situations, ALMOST ALL of us will be looking FAR ahead for cars.

I know this whole thing isn't a big deal. If this happened on the street, I'd be on my way, stunned but on my way. But this happened at MY bank and should always be documented. The bank should atleast know. I'm walking in all dirty. It's like going to Home Depot and have a gallon of paint fall on you. I'm a photographer by trade and if you search my past posts, I post a lot of pictures. Give me a break! I eat, drink, and live photography.

Hopefully you've learned a valueable lesson, and the bank won't be held liable. Again, good thing you're okay.

Nice photos, by the way.
