possibly the smallest rear rack/pannier-esque setup?

Just an example of what I'm aiming for. Using a Nashbar front rack on the rear and Dakine goggle cases. It fits well. Still waiting for pannier hardware from J & D to modify the cases.

This setup will remove a couple pounds from my backpack. Such as tools, lock, 29er spare 'tube (8 oz.), etc.

Note: the cases do have vents on both ends, but I'm not concerned because I keep tools and such in zip lock bags. :thumb:

I have the same rack but it's on the front and I got the bag that is made for it. I like your set up too.

Thanks. I opted for this setup because I wanna strap stuff on the top.

For $24, it works pretty well.

All done. Rack, cases and hardware came out to about $65. Setup is super-sturdy. :)

Once the bungee breaks in, I'll trim the excess. One can be used as a trunk bag.

Found a few mounting brackets in the garage that fit perfect. And they're black. :)

Here is the modification all finished. Gonna add a PB tail light on the rear.

Awesome job! Kudos.

Would you mind taking so pics of the whole rack without the bags on it. I'd like to get a feel for how tall the stays are on that rack. If they are tall enough to clear my front fender, I will put one on my commuter.

Thanks. It's my 1st attempt. I think they came out well.

It was a close fit for me. I'd have more clearance if I installed 700x23's. :)

Yeah, they did come out well! I'm tempted to try something like that on... well, never mind that for now.

I'd appreciate if you bump this thread in a few months, tell us how they've held up, how useful they've been, that kind of thing.

Thanks rhm. Will do sir. I have the bungees tight for off road trails. I was looking at some camera bags yesterday. Definitely do-able.
