Pretty sure Lance Armstrong passed me today..
.. ok, it most likely wasn't him, but this roadie was the fastest guy on a bike i've ever seen. He left me in the dust like I was standing still... i've never felt so weak...
|
did he have an electric assist hub?
|
Probably me.

Must be going around. I very rarely get passed, but I've been passed the last two mornings by some really fast guys - both days I've been cruising along at 22-23 with a slight tailwind, and got passed like I was riding some heavy beach cruiser. Then again, it's not a race, so I didn't feel particularly bad about it - in a way I'm glad that I'm not under any pressure to be the fastest guy out there, even though most days I'm faster than anybody else I see.
Well, I got passed last week, too, but that doesn't really count - I gradually reeled in a well-kitted roadie, and once I passed him he must have decided that he didn't like getting passed by somebody with panniers, because he ramped up his pace by several mph and turned off the path shortly after. Maybe I'm reading too much into his reaction, but I choose to assume his thoughts were something that I find amusing. :) Were you on the Aurora or the fixie? |
I always considered myself a strong rider, but I pulled up to this stoplight a while back, then this other dude pulls up on the nastiest looking fixed gear gaspipe conversion I've ever seen, and just proceeded to smoke me like a cheap cigar once the light turned green.

After doing my commute for 12 months I was dropped by that rarest of Chinese beasts, a roadie, on the way to work yesterday. Not sure where he came from but he was going up a rise over an overpass when I first saw him, in full lycra kit, very very unusual in my part of the woods.
I caught him at some lights, and had a small chat before the light went green (he had a little English, I have a little Chinese). When we took off he missed clipping in, but soon caught up, and we rode together for a couple of hundred meters at about 33 - 35 kmph. He then said he was a little late, and off he went...... z |
When I'm on my commuter I don't pay any attention to the roadies passing me. The hipsters on the fixies otoh piss me off so I do what we all like to do, I ratchet it up and pass them again. I love the look on their faces when this old guy (I'm 55), slightly overweight, just zips buy them going up the bridge.

It was me...I'm usually not that fast, but I had some bad chili and needed a bathroom like NOW!
|
Crippling boredom.

You can always tell by his Yellow Oakley's and $ 16 K Trek..... Are they allowed to ride without wearing Radio Shack kit.?
|
I get passed all the time on my commute. Sometimes I get passed by people who are really fast, or who are in the middle of a "personal best" (hard to tell).
I've also been passed by several female roadies who are much faster than I am. Bottom line: I ride a lot of miles, but I'm definitely not fast. |
On my ride last Sunday a guy blew by me like I was standing still, but I was doing about 18mph at the time. I just told myself that's okay, I'd already ridden 28 miles and he probably just started.;)

Probably wasn't Lance. I think he overseas for some race starting this weekend.

..

Tis the season for the roadies. Don't let them get you down. In two months or so they will go back into hibernation and you'll have the roads all to yourself again.
|
Thou Shalt not Lie. That person who pass ya, I'm gonna admit. It was.........NOT ME!!! :)
|
Like many cyclists, I don't like getting dropped, but I'm not about to spend the time, energy, and money to get to the workplace, retail stores or post office just a few minutes faster.

Yesterday evening, a really cute girl left work right in front of me on her SE Lager. I was stuck talking to a bozo who works a couple floors up for a couple minutes after she left and couldn't manage to reel her in before we went different directions. She was fast (and lycra clad but not kit), and I am on my winter beater this week (rear wheel being rebuilt on my Aurora) but I know I could have caught up given another mile. At least it was inspiration.
Then, a couple miles later, I almost lived the Yehuda Moon comic from 2010-06-26 (without the crash) as I came to an intersection. That one got me home in a pretty good mood! |

If bhop says it was most likely not Lance, I sure as heck ain't gonna be the guy to just believe him without making every effort to prove that it was. :D |
Sorry, breh, I'll wave next time I see you around town.
