Time RXS. ;)

Actually, I just built up a bike and got a set of them because I figured, "Eh, what the hell, all-new bike, might as well try some new pedals since I'm spending too much anyway." They're one-sided like Look or SPD-SL road pedals, although the clip concept is closer to ATAC/Eggbeater style with a small brass cleat doing the actual engagement. I think they're even the newest design on the market, at least in road pedals.

Rode the bike a few times around the block to make sure everything was squared away, wearing sandals instead of cycling shoes (I haven't even installed the cleats on my road shoes yet). Worked fine. I might ride this bike to work in regular shoes next week just to see what they're like for the full 1.2 mile commute. I'll say that they have an advantage over CB pedals -- especially plain Eggbeaters -- in that they feel like a flattish platform but won't try to roll your foot off like Eggbeaters and Quattros (I have to be very careful if I wear regular shoes on my Quattros).

Those are what I use. I know that in theory with bike shoes you don't need a large platform because the sole is so stiff but I've found it is still more comfortable to have the load spread out. You notice this most on really long rides (centuries +). If you miss clipping in it is no big deal. I was recently on tour and I had to take a 3 mile construction detour onto a badly rutted dirt road in heavy rain. I was wading in the mud a good part of the way on this road but it was still easy to clip in.
