Dropped by BMX type bikes!

:notamused::notamused::notamused: I was riding my ol' Schwinn home from the library the other day and saw a coupla kids riding up behind me on those long, low BMX? style bikes. I thought my 26" wheels would offset the 16-17 yr old legs. Nope! I was smoked by one and nudged out by the other. Are these bike really that fast or am I suffering from the 40 year age gap? Guess I'll have to be content with shouting "Keep off the grass!!!" to 'em.

They probably rode 1/2 mile total. How far had you gone already?

When I was a teenager casually goofing off on my ten speed I saw a group of roadies pass my street. Wearing jeans and not thinking clearly, I sped off to catch them, then passed them, just to prove that I could. But keeping ahead of them was more work than I bargained for. I turned off onto a side street, and once out of sight, threw up in the bushes.

LOL, That is one of the funniest biking stories I have ever heard. That should be published some where.......

I think this is the first I have ever heard of that happening. Most folks on bmx bikes around here are riding with their knees in their neck.

There is a kid from my hometown, who rides a BMX. I see him on the MUP every once in awhile, and we ride together, and talk a little.

I'll be cruisin along at 18-20 MPH on my Hybrid, and he just stays right next to me - not even breathing hard.............

That kid can really spin, let me tell you. He keeps it up for 4-5 miles, until we part ways..... and he never falls off my side......

All of the younger generation ain't soft........ LOL

pesky kids.

I bet you would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids and their dog!

I suppose it depends on the bike, I've had a few with gearing that would make it impossible to do something like that, but I have had one or two with ok gearing and a long enough seatpost to make it more like a normal bike. I'm tempted to find a BMX frame that will let me get a 450mm seatpost and build a wheel with a 3-speed hub.

How long did they stay with you? I've encountered BMXers that can match my commuting speed for a short distance, but are usually winded after a few minutes. I'd imagine it's hard to keep up any kind of speed for a while because of the low gearing and saddle position.

Yeah, they can burst really fast but usually don't maintain that speed for too long. But yeah, young age has some advantages :) And they don't carry any weight.

its all in the gearing my racing bmx i run 48/14 with 185 arms that thing is FAST ive never put a speedo on it though maybe i will just to see, i kinda doubt i could hold full speed for more than a mile though
