Iced espresso in your water bottle...?
 

The breakfast of champions, the nectar of the gods. I used to make fun of the addicts who wouldn't start their day without a cuppa joe. But I've learned that if you can't beat 'em, [you should] join 'em. While I don't get the infamous "coffee headache" withdrawl symptom, I do feel a little more alert after drinking the stuff.

But it's hard to carry around on a bike. The cups they have at the coffee shop aren't just wasteful, they also hate being in a bottle cage, and try to sneak out.

Does anybody carry iced coffee or espresso with them on their bike? Are there any bottles that work better for this than others? I lost one of my water bottles and need to replace it anyway; I'd like to get something that makes it easier to "gas up" on my ride in to work, instead of having to sneak out for a break at some point during the morning.

REI has a bunch of insulated containers; or if you're sticking with cold drinks, you could use a klean kanteen--I like these, but it is annoying that they require a special bottle cage. (You could put hot coffee in one, and it would be fine--but your hand would hurt!)

Polar Bottles are Great for Iced coffee.

I have two insulated coffee cups, one is from starbucks and the other a coleman. I use a beer can cozy for a snug fit. I also have a coffee cup holder on my second stem set up. I make iced espresso at home all the time.

Right now, in these hot summer days, my caffeine poison of choice is the Venti Starbucks doubleshot on ice with non fat milk. Imagine: 5 glorious shots of espresso and a bit of sweet syrup shaken on ice, then majestically poured into a cup and topped with a bit of cold milk. *faints with glee*

It doesn't survive long enough to pour into an insulated container and carried to a cup holder on my bike. Oh no. It's happily inhaled while resting my head on a cool, clean tabletop. I have to switch around locations so I'm not tagged as the "weirdo".

I can see it now: coffee stains on all of my yellow jerseys. Nah. I'd better stop thinking about it.

Soy Frappuccinos (wait, wait--I mean, "Frappuccini") are vegan now :( So I have had like 20 of them :(

I don't know how to put them on a bike and I don't want to know! They cost like $14!

Here you go. The 20oz insulated Klean Kanteen. It's the same size as a Dunkin' Donuts large coffee, and will keep your coffee hot or cold all day long. The bottle fits perfectly in your average bicycle bottle holder. The loop cap is great for transporting the coffee and for drinking iced coffee. The cafe cap is great for sipping hot coffee at your destination.

I love this this coffee mug by REI. It is a vacumm seal 15oz mug with a coffee grind screen that can be removed. In the morning, I put two scoop of grind beans, hot water, sugar, cream and about three hours later, I am sipping the coffee because it is still too hot to drink. In the afternoon, I remove the filter screen and fill it with Frappucino. Unscrew the lid and insert a straw into one of the two opening and I am good to go. And oh yes, it also fit my bottle holder on my bike. Only draw back is the darn thing is expensive but well worth it.

The Starbucks instant coffee (Via) makes great iced coffee right in the water bottle.

My favourite is a mix I came up with on a 400km brevet, and I called it a Randoccino:
- 1 bottle chocolate Ensure Plus
- 1 can mocha Starbucks Doubleshot
Mix in water bottle, keep on riding. It's coffee and a meal all in one. 490 calories, 13g protein, enough fat and sugar to keep on going.

... just don't make the mistake of grabbing ex-lax instead of Ensure in those dimly lit early morning hours.....

I have an insulated stainless container from OXO, I believe. It fits and stays in a bottle cage, has a solidly-sealing sipping opening and keeps my 12 oz Americano comfortably warm after a 40 minute ride at 35 degrees.

I purchased it at a discount store for less than $10US.

Sometimes I drink tea while riding by using a cup holder like this http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...6_20000_400162. It is easier than the thermos in the bottle cage.

Hot coffee? What the heck are you talking about? Has the world gone mad? :D

So two people have recommended a Kleen Kanteen. And this brings up a question... I found a Kleen Kanteen floating in Lake Union not too long ago. I pulled it out of the water because it doesn't belong there, and I haven't done anything with it, so it's in some corner somewhere at home. I haven't actually used it because Lake U is equal parts water and diesel fuel. So ... the stainless steel part of the bottle should still be good, right? I should only have to replace the plastic cap? I imagine that part can be recycled, and some bleach water might sterilize the can?

I would love to join you for a cup or two of that if I were any closer. I'm a sucker for caffeine mixed with syrups. Not healthy I know, but, who cares, as I say - you need to enjoy life while you can, we have time to worry later when we get too old to ride a bike :D

Oooh - I'm not so sure. I know that, technically, you can clean stainless no matter what was in it, but Lake Union is NASTY. I don't think I could ever bring myself to drink out of it.

I took a packet of Via ( not iced ) camping this past weekend. Great might be a bit of a stretch, but it was drinkable. :) In the land of great coffee, though, I try to avoid Starbucks. And espresso is one of my vices...

I've only taken hot coffee in with me in the morning, but cold would work too.

Well, I guess I'm the odd one or I'm use to the hot weather in Florida now. I actually put "hot" coffee" in my thermos. Oddly enough I'll drink iced tea or coffee but only when I'm home.

Beyond the thermos, I carry plain ole water in my water bottle.

If you put the container and cap in your dishwasher and run it with hot water, it should be fine. If you don't own a dishwasher, fill the sink with hot water, add a tablespoon of dish soap and a capful of bleach, and let soak for 15 minutes, then scrub with the rough side of a sponge. If you are still worried, fill the stainless steel portion with a 1:10 mix of bleach:water and let sit for an hour; this should basically sterilize the bottle.

I would drink out of it after that.

sometimes i drink Stout out of my camelbak bottle...have to close it cause it spits foam.. lol

...and on the way back you can put some beer in it.

PS: no motor is right about Starbucks Via, very much recommend it.
