Ever been "bumped" by another cyclist?
Have you ever been struck from behind while stopped at a stoplight by another cyclist?
Was it a serious collision or just a small bump? What did you do or say? |
This has never happened to me, but if it did I would be incredibly mad unless the person was a noob and incredibly apologetic.
|
My friend bumped me once when he was riding too close behind me.. I said "whoa dude.." that's about it..
|
I got lightly bumped at a stoplight by a pickup truck, I gave him the "wtf" look, he ignored me as if it didn't happen. I was mad but didn't make an issue of it. I would of if he had hit me harder though!
|
I bumped my friend's pannier once when she stopped quick. I apologized. She hadn't noticed.
|
I ran into my SO when I thought we were turning and he thought we were going straight. He had to buy a new seat and I had a bruise for over a year. Since then we have improved our communication skills.

I've bumped and been bumped, but only while mtb racing...

Julian Dean knows a little something about being bumped while on his bike... maybe he'll have some advice. :roflmao2:

My friend bumped my back wheel with his front wheel once and I panicked and slammed on the brakes. He didn't do it a second time :)
|
Three times that I can remember.
1. Going down a bridge there is a zig-zag kind of shift and some idiot was trying to pass me on the inside, he hooked the handrail and slammed into the ground, a seocnd before he did that I felt he bumped my rear wheel. I am glad he didn't take me down with him. 2. Same bridge, the other direction, I slow down for a pedestrian, fixter tailgating me misses me by inches, slightly touching my panniers. Of course, he yells at me that I'm not supposed to stop like that on a bikeway. Like what? Sorry my brake lights are out: put some brakes on that thing and don't tailgate. 3. I stop for a red light, guy behind me doesn't expect that, hits his brakes and touches my rear wheel. I said "red light and there are people crossing the street" He calls me an idiot and takes off forcing his way through the people. |
I was on a group ride in the rain in Florida a couple winters ago and we all came to a quick stop at a red light. A guy in the back either wasn't paying attention or his brakes weren't working very well, and he bounced off me and a couple other guys like a pinball until he finally stopped. No one went down fortunately. The guy in front of me yelled an explicative at him, which I thought was a little harsh.

I've only had my rear wheel "bumped" by a car.
But I've come close to love-tapping a cyclist. We were going down hill in the same direction, and the surroundings made passing a bad idea. I was riding behind her, but to the left a bit so as not to tailgate. She stopped completely ( having been going about 20 mph ) at an intersection. I didn't have enough room on the left to go around, because of a car, and wasn't sure the bike lane was wide enough to avoid a collision. I locked my rear wheel for a split second while I was coming to a stop... When I looked back over my shoulder after I started moving again, she was unfolding a map, standing in the bike lane. |
Yes, frequently. It isn't worth making a big deal out of.

Oh good; I wouldn't want anyone to get offended if I have to brush-pass them with panniers full of saw blades and a few baseball bats strapped sideways on the rack.
I lived in P.R. China for a few years, bicycles were used as transportation, not trendy toys. I do remember that the first time I found myself riding, literally, shoulder to shoulder with the people around me seemed very uncomfortable; however, truth is that was a rare thing. But getting bumped, so common it was unworthy of mention. Oh, and congrtrats on passing your Extra, KD6EVH here. |
Twice so far. Rear ended by other bikers.
Although it is a tight squeeze here in New York City: |

Bumped and been bumped...just lightly, apologies given and accepted... |
While riding on a bike path with a guy drafting me, a cyclist that was stopped to feed cats, just blindly walks onto the path in front of me. I did a quick stop and the guy drafting me ran into my left chain stay. I was fine, but he almost fell over.
It would have been much better if he damaged my bike and I could make him trade his Ti bike for my low end steel bike. |
VW was a sponsor for a century ride and the organizers thought it would be cool to have VW run a pace car at the beginning of the ride. So rather than all the experienced faster riders moving ahead and stringing out, all the cyclist got blocked together. Someone behind crashed into the curb with a loud noise. The newbie next to me turned to look and drifted into me, so I shouldered him to keep him from taking me down.
It was the last time the century ride tried the pace car idea. |
