33% heavier

I figure the fastest way to drop my own weight is to ride a heavier bike.

you are correct, thanks for catching my error

Me too. I keep thinking about adding things to my bike that I don't really need, just to get a better workout

Some of you guys have light bikes. My Rans Tailwind recumbent weighs 36 lbs unloaded and my Schwinn hybrid/winter bike weighs 38 lbs unloaded.

What is that rear hub? An Sturmey-Archer 8 speed (which only gears up)?
I'm trying to imagine how you can get away with having the chainring and rear cog the same size.

Add some steel fenders (from Wald) and that will bring it up a few more pounds.
I like the look of the perfectly parallel chain. Nice tension.

Thanks, you're right on the money, it's an XRD-8. Even with a 32T chainring, I still had to walk it up a few very steep hills... was thinking about putting a 28T on it, but I will probably move the 8-speed to a cargo bike and put a regular single on the chopper. I rode that bike 114 miles for an MS tour, so now that I've proven I could do it, I'm doing it on a faster bike this year ;)

The Kona is much more comfortable to ride as it sits more upright.

I have weighed it but, really, the weight is a tertiary goal. The primary goals are reliability/durability and functionality.

The difference in those two bikes, OP, is the components... the frames are rarely outside a few lbs of each other.

Now, putting light-weight components on a commuter bike? Not so smart. You won't get me on a commuter bike that is light but not reliable or durable.

Fuji Allegro 26.7 lbs per Fuji literature. Vilano track bike, per UPS delivery, the whole box & contents was 28 lbs, I figure the box and packing materials was about 5 lbs or so. It's a 54 cm Hi Ten steel frame, is roughly 23 lbs about right ? Fuji MX-200 atb, this one weighs a lot in comparison and wouldn't at all be surprised if it was 38 lbs or so ?
