where to buy shorter quill stem? or conversion?
So my road bike still has a quill stem, and i think i need a little bit of a shorter stem as the reach is a little far for me. I look on performance bike and nashbar but cannot find a quill stem. At least i think thats the right name!
Or should i forget the quill stem and get a conversion? http://s.wiggle.co.uk/images/profile-stem-converter.jpg What is the difference? Any benefits to this? I dont want to add any more weight to my bike. I have a de rosa nuovo classico, so any addition would have to be a little bit more performance oriented. |
What's your current stem length?
Here's a 90mm http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...ls.php?id=7423 Here's a 70. But you may need to have an awfully large frame or want an awfully high stem: http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...ls.php?id=7424 Plenty more around |
I've put the conversion thingies on both my 1" threaded steerer bikes. The advantage is that then I can use commonly available stems from my LBS, swapping them around until I find one I like. Yet, they retain the height adjustment that's lost on threadless steerers.
I even use the Profile Design ones you pictured. They work just fine. If you prefer to look of a quill stem and want to stick with it, Velo Orange has them, as does Rivendell. |
