Any Ti security chains available?

I'm thinking about a titanium chain and good lock to reduce the weight I carry on a daily basis. I'm not a weight weeny but to control some of the daily weight might be advantageous. I could have searched but there is such a wealth of knowledge here I thought I would ask. TIA Blues Frog

I have never heard of such a thing. Not a bad idea, but it would be incredibly expensive.

As an aside, if you misspell the title to a thread it's best just to report a post and ask for it to be changed. Reporting function is activated by the triangle with an exclamation mark under each post

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that function. Blues Frog

While a titanium chain will be awesomely light, it is not necessarily as good as a steel chain. I don't believe there is any alloy of titanium that can be said to be as hard as steel, which is what you want in a chain. It may be strong enough to hold similar loads (tensile or compressive), but bolt cutters will go through it more easily. I would venture a guess that spending that much money on a product that people are going to be trying to destroy would be a bit of a waste in the long run.

Another problem would be cost: Titanium can be machined reasonably well, but to shape it into chain links would be an enormous effort. I imagine a company might have a hard time justifying a product like that; it would be a hard sell to get enough of them out the door to make a profit.
