I just ordered a beach cruiser off walmart. And I'm wondering what type of helmets out there would look nice with it?

Yeah, pretty much. You might find skateboarding helmets to look a bit more stylish, though, and less like you have some kind of alien atop your head.

A hard hat in your favorite team's colord, or a batting helmet, or one of those motorcycle skull cap type ones with a fake DOT sticker on it.

Fit, not appearance, is the most important thing in a helmet. It shouldn't slide around on your head and you shouldn't have to crank it really tight to keep it from sliding around. When you put it on it should just fit snugly enough to move the skin on your scalp when you wiggle it back and forth.
If you're worried about sweating too much on the way to work, a racing type helmet will give you more ventilation.

I wouldn't wear one at all on a cruiser.
Not sure how you plan on riding it, but if it was mine I would just be "cruising" around the neighborhood, not on the same busy streets I commute to work on.
I don't wear a helmet when I'm walking the dog, yet since I'm walking the dog on the same streets as the cruiser I guess I have the same chance of being run over. But no, not gonna wear a helmet, and neither is the dog.

Smiley or not, that was one of the most asinine things I've read here in quite a while - and that is truly saying a lot.

To the OP, if you don't opt for one of the Yakkay helmets (the ones pictured above that look like hats), I think most any urban commuter-type helmet would look fine. A "typical" road or mountain bike helmet might not, as they tend to have the aerodynamic "thing" sticking out in the back. Unless you want to look silly, in which case I'd suggest a time trial helmet, which would be the height of silliness on a beach cruiser...

+1 on the Nutcase helmets - they're pretty cool. Those Yakkays are sweet, too, but very expensive. For a serious recommendation I would suggest the Bell Citi: https://www.bellbikehelmets.com/productDetail.asp?prodID=8#. They're designed with commuting in mind and are one of the only helmets I know of that was recommended by Consumer Reports.

Do you happen to remember what it was about the helmet that Consumer Reports liked?

"The Bell Citi, Bell Slant, and Specialized Aurora adult helmets and the Bell Boomerang toddler helmet scored highest for impact absorption. The Bell Citi and Bell Slant adult models and Schwinn Intercept youth model are CR Best Buys"
